Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to announce her running mate by Tuesday, when she will hold her first rally with her pick in Philadelphia.
The two will barnstorm cities in seven swing states in four days. In addition to Philadelphia, theyll hit western Wisconsin, Detroit, Raleigh, Savannah, Phoenix and Las Vegas.
The stops will mark the first major campaign swing the presumptive ticket will make since Harris became the all-but-certain Democratic presidential nominee following President Joe Bidens sudden departure from the race. The tour also underscores that the campaign believes the electoral map has expanded since Biden passed the baton to Harris.
The details of Harris and her running mates schedule were first shared with POLITICO by the campaign.

(1,230 posts)If true, Harris would need to announce today, but I am also not sure if the running mate needs to be named for the roll call. I wish the DNC would make a statement.
EDIT: Just found this. The VP does not not need to be nominated at the same time.

(1,230 posts)Andy Beshear is young and dynamic, and he doesn't carry the perceived school voucher and Gaza protests baggage. True that Beshar's state of KY is not in play, but I have seen a poll that shows Harris up by 4 points in PA already. Plus, a real Appalachian candidate like Beshear against Shady Vance would be enjoyable!
But really, we'll know when we know, and I will be an enthusiastic supportor of whomever Harris chooses!

(69,333 posts)It makes sense to make the announcement in a big city in an important swing state, but the VP doesn't have to be from that state.
If it's Beshear, for instance, it wouldn't make sense to make the announcement in Kentucky, which is not in play. If it's Walz, no point in going to MN, which is safely blue.
But we shall see.

(2,090 posts)It seems the main reason people say to pick Shapiro for VP is so we are sure to win PA But what else does he bring to the ticket versus being very popular in PA? (Real question as I don't know a lot about Shapiro and trying to learn more). Would Shapiro's support for school vouchers hurt him? A perceived "anti-Palestine" stance (I'm not at all saying Shapiro is anti-Palestine, but many of the young voters who protested seem to think so.)
I like Walz as he has a wide range appeal. Seems he would better balance out the ticket. He is the one who came up with the wildly successful use of the word "weird" which shows a keen understanding of effective messaging. When I've seen him speak he gives of a sort of "good ole' boy" Pete Buttigieg effective communication.
I'm sure I'm wrong on this, just can't shake this underlying sense of trepidation if Harris chooses Shapiro. Though PA is a crucial state, why do we assume PA won't go Dem with other VP candidates? Walz gives off a vibe that would appeal to blue-collar which should help in PA.

As much as I like my governor, Walz doesn't have Shapiro's skills. We also don't need Walz on the ticket to carry MN.
