$10M cash withdrawal drove secret probe into whether Trump took money from Egypt
Source: WaPo
Political appointees rejected efforts to search for additional evidence investigators believed might provide answers, then closed the case.
Five days before Donald Trump became president in January 2017, a manager at a bank branch in Cairo received an unusual letter from an organization linked to the Egyptian intelligence service. It asked the bank to "kindly withdraw" nearly $10 million from the organization's account -- all in cash.
Inside the state-run National Bank of Egypt, employees were soon busy placing bundles of $100 bills into two large bags, according to records from the bank. Four men arrived and carried away the bags, which U.S. officials later described in sealed court filings as weighing a combined 200 pounds and containing what was then a sizable share of Egypt's reserve of U.S. currency.
Federal investigators learned of the withdrawal, which has not been previously reported, early in 2019. The discovery intensified a secret criminal investigation that had begun two years earlier with classified U.S. intelligence indicating that Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi sought to give Trump $10 million to boost his 2016 presidential campaign, a Washington Post investigation has found.

(8,876 posts)Pour yourselves a big cuppa and settle in for the read. Then ask yourselves: Is THIS how the GOP puppeteers get rid of the ugly orange monkey on their backs? Will the GOP scratch their very damaged horse and put in a fresher pony for the race?
And how do we deal with all those Trump DOJ jerks who hid all this for years?

(32,318 posts)DOJ doesn't leak, it's those damn investigative reporters.
Nothing to see here until Sally Yares takes over.
Article doesn't make sense, 5 days before TSF became president means he was already elected. The 10 million was for what?
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)The investigation started in 2019.
And yes, That's the big question:
What did Egypt secretly pay a President 10 million in U.S. cash FOR?

(1,977 posts)you dont revisit decisions from the previous guy even if you disagree cuz that will set a precedent.
I understand that concept but corruption should allow exceptions

(2,597 posts)I was able to read it. Trump is so corrupt it's hard to find his limits......Basically the Egyptian dictator, who overthrew a democratically-elected president, met with Trump after a UN meeting. Trump then donated $10 million of his "own" money to his campaign. Sisi then sent Trump $10 million in cash and Trump referred to him as "my favorite dictator." Of course this reimbursement is a violation of laws against taking money from foreign sources for elections. But wait--there's more--Trump then freed up over a billion dollars of money that the US had held up due to Egypt's human-rights abuses. So, basically, give Trump $10 millions and you get over a billion--and are free to beat, torture, and oppress your citizens. They are all assholes.
Mueller wanted to investigate it more, but it was shut down by Trump's appointees after the election.
They are such traitors and are so corrupt. Unfortunately, 40% of *voting* Americans are gullible moron/clowns who need a "daddy" figure to tell them what to do. Just look at all the videos where Trumpers are interviewed at his events---their gullibility/stupidity knows no limits.

(32,318 posts)No way in hell that Garland touches this. Is there is a statute of limitations. It is too close to the election and that would appear to be partisan.
Full stop: Imagine if this information was uncovered for a Democratic candidate, what would happen? It would be on the front pages of every news outlet in the nation. Will the MSM publicize this or is this the end of the story?
TSF was doing quid pro quos before he was even elected.
Just imagine what we don't know the traitor did. Imagine the deals he made with Putin. Kim didn't get all that flattery from TSF for nothing.

Sisi became the first foreign leader to call and congratulate Trump after he won the election. At a 2019 G7 summit, Trump called out, Wheres my favorite dictator? as he awaited the Egyptian President, according to press reports.
The case even landed before the Supreme Court in early 2019. The high court ultimately declined the companys bid to block Muellers subpoena in March 2019.
Snip
Federal law enforcement officials suspected, in part because of intelligence information, that there was money moving through the Egyptian bank that could connect to Trumps campaign donation, according to the sources. Yet untangling the web of Trumps complex business interests ultimately remained out of reach.
Campaign finance law prohibits foreign political contributions to campaigns for public office. A financial tie between a sitting president and a foreign country could also have explosive national security consequences.

(32,318 posts)but the guy is one of the best at laundering money.
This will be a nothingburger since the case was ultimately dropped. If Egypt gave TSF 10 million in cash TSF would have to find a corrupt bank to take that kind of money. Deutche bank, that small bank in San Diego?

(8,876 posts)Kennedy's son worked at Deutsche Bank, was he in the division that lent money to Trump when other banks refused? One might wonder if Deutsche Bank was into more than just risky lending.
Whatever that bank was up to, and how ever Kennedy's son may have participated, knowingly or unknowingly, the Trump Crime Family had enough on him to assure they would be on their merry way of taking out a big insurance policy via stacking the SCOTUS with trump strumpets.

Stock up on popcorn and some of that cheddar cheese powder. This is gonna take a while. But, hey, trump might be happy that he's getting more attention today than Kamala!
