Robert F. Kenney is not facing charges over leaving a dead bear cub in New York City's Central Park a decade ago.

The New York State Department of Environment Conservation (DEC) said the statute of limitations expired after Kennedy said in a video released Sunday that he was responsible for putting a dead bear cub in Central Park a decade ago.

The DEC said it had determined back in 2014 that the bear had died from "blunt force trauma consistent with a car collision." Authorities closed the investigation in 2014 after it couldn't find enough evidence to decide if any violation had occurred.

On Sunday, the independent presidential candidate shared a video on X where he claimed in a conversation with Roseanne Barr that he placed a dead "young bear" in Central Park 10 years ago. In the video, which the campaign said was posted to get ahead of a New Yorker article, the candidate said he was driving in upstate New York when a woman in a van in front of him hit and killed the bear, he told Barr.
