Former President Donald Trump held up a mini-sized TicTacs container on stage during his rally in North Carolina in a stunt aimed at mocking President Joe Biden’s record on inflation. Three weeks after Biden announced he was withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race, Trump continued his barrage of attacks using the TicTac box visual to suggest that everyday products are shrinking under the president’s economic policies.

“But the groceries, just to put it in simple terms, people go to the grocery store, and they have less than half a deal,” Trump began. Reaching into his suit pocket, he said: “In fact, I had something here. I did have something. I would show you. Wait a minute. I don’t know if you’ve seen this. I used it once. I have it. I do have it. Look at this. Look at this. So this is Tic Tacs, right? I don’t know if I like the company. I’ve never met. I have no idea. They’re so lucky. This is the greatest commercial they ever had.”

Trump continued, holding up a regular-sized TicTac box and the smaller one side-by-side: “But that’s what happened. This is inflation. This is TicTac. This is inflation. This is what’s happened. I just happened to have somebody give me this one today. I said, I think we’ll put it up as an example of inflation.”

Despite Trump’s point, the miniature TicTac box he exhibited is not a reduced size due to inflation but a widely available mini TicTac Travel box size that usually comes in a larger pack of 60 units. While the standard box weighs about 0.63 oz and contains about 38 Tic Tacs, the smaller boxes in the travel multipack are typically 0.13 oz.
