Trump says presidential civilian award is better than top military honor whose recipients are 'dead' or 'hit' by bullets

BEDMINSTER, N.J. Former President Donald Trump lauded a wealthy donor on whom he bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom as having gotten the "better" award compared to the top military honor, the Medal of Honor, because those recipients are often deceased or injured.
Speaking at a campaign event intended to discuss antisemitism, Trump was introduced by Miriam Adelson, a wealthy Republican donor and widow of Sheldon Adelson, who pumped millions of dollars of his own money into electing Republican candidates. He died in 2021. I watched Sheldon sitting so proud in the White House when we gave Miriam the Presidential Medal of Freedom," Trump said at his New Jersey resort.
"Thats the highest award you can get as a civilian. Its the equivalent of the Congressional Medal of Honor," Trump continued, referring to the highest military honor bestowed for valor in combat. The Medal of Honor is often mistakenly called the Congressional Medal of Honor.
"But civilian version, its actually much better because everyone [who] gets the Congressional Medal of Honor, they're soldiers. Theyre either in very bad shape because theyve been hit so many times by bullets or theyre dead," Trump concluded. She gets it, and shes a healthy, beautiful woman, and theyre rated equal, but she got the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and she got it for and thats through committees and everything else.

A family member of mine, retired Army 30 years and a conservative Christian is absolutely appaled by Vance's attacks. This one by trump will seal the deal. They will not be voting gop this year. Can't promise a vote for Kamala, but at least it's one vote lost for Maga.

(22,218 posts)He and Vance (whatever the hell his real name is) are parasites sucking off the freedom defended and preserved by those who served in uniform. And have the gall to compare giving millions of dollars to fascists as more worthy than someone making the ultimate sacrifice for their compadres and the country. I'm appalled and it would make me want to do violent things to both of them, if I didn't already want to do violent things to both of them.

had to move @ 92 to retirement community and I came across a picture of

How any vet, the families of vets, service member or real American could vote

(54,906 posts)Miriam Adelson, recipient of the MOF in 2018, recently donated a huge chunk of money to a Republican PAC, not controlled by TSF and MAGA.
In a fit of rage, TSF caused several inflammatory texts to be sent to Adelson.
And in buyers remorse, it occurred to the campaign that action was biting the hand that feeds it.
So, this BS of the MOF is much better than the MOH is TSFs attempt to mend bridges without apologizing to Adelson.

(15,578 posts)Marcus Luttrell would have a few words with you as he's screwing your fat, fucking head into the ground, you five-deferment fuckwad of a fucking poser.
On June 28, 2005, deep behind enemy lines east of Asadabad in the Hindu Kush of Afghanistan, a very committed four-man Navy SEAL team was conducting a reconnaissance mission at the unforgiving altitude of approximately 10,000 feet. The SEALs, Lt. Michael Murphy, Gunners Mate 2nd Class (SEAL) Danny Dietz, Sonar Technician 2nd Class (SEAL) Matthew Axelson and Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class (SEAL) Marcus Luttrell had a vital task. The four SEALs were scouting Ahmad Shah a terrorist in his mid-30s who grew up in the adjacent mountains just to the south.
Under the assumed name Muhammad Ismail, Shah led a guerrilla group known to locals as the "Mountain Tigers" that had aligned with the Taliban and other militant groups close to the Pakistani border. The SEAL mission was compromised when the team was spotted by local nationals, who presumably reported its presence and location to the Taliban.
A fierce firefight erupted between the four SEALs and a much larger enemy force of more than 50 anti-coalition militia. The enemy had the SEALs outnumbered. They also had terrain advantage. They launched a well-organized, three-sided attack on the SEALs. The firefight continued relentlessly as the overwhelming militia forced the team deeper into a ravine.
Trying to reach safety, the four men, now each wounded, began bounding down the mountain's steep sides, making leaps of 20 to 30 feet. Approximately 45 minutes into the fight, pinned down by overwhelming forces, Dietz, the communications petty officer, sought open air to place a distress call back to the base. But before he could, he was shot in the hand, the blast shattering his thumb.
Despite the intensity of the firefight and suffering grave gunshot wounds himself, Murphy is credited with risking his own life to save the lives of his teammates. Murphy, intent on making contact with headquarters, but realizing this would be impossible in the extreme terrain where they were fighting, unhesitatingly and with complete disregard for his own life moved into the open, where he could gain a better position to transmit a call to get help for his men.
Moving away from the protective mountain rocks, he knowingly exposed himself to increased enemy gunfire. This deliberate and heroic act deprived him of cover and made him a target for the enemy. While continuing to be fired upon, Murphy made contact with the SOF Quick Reaction Force at Bagram Air Base and requested assistance. He calmly provided his units location and the size of the enemy force while requesting immediate support for his team. At one point he was shot in the back causing him to drop the transmitter. Murphy picked it back up, completed the call and continued firing at the enemy who was closing in. Severely wounded, Lt. Murphy returned to his cover position with his men and continued the battle.
An MH-47 Chinook helicopter, with eight additional SEALs and eight Army Night Stalkers aboard, was sent is as part of an extraction mission to pull out the four embattled SEALs. The MH-47 was escorted by heavily-armored, Army attack helicopters. Entering a hot combat zone, attack helicopters are used initially to neutralize the enemy and make it safer for the lightly-armored, personnel-transport helicopter to insert.
The heavy weight of the attack helicopters slowed the formations advance prompting the MH-47 to outrun their armored escort. They knew the tremendous risk going into an active enemy area in daylight, without their attack support, and without the cover of night. Risk would, of course, be minimized if they put the helicopter down in a safe zone. But knowing that their warrior brothers were shot, surrounded and severely wounded, the rescue team opted to directly enter the oncoming battle in hopes of landing on brutally hazardous terrain.
As the Chinook raced to the battle, a rocket-propelled grenade struck the helicopter, killing all 16 men aboard.
On the ground and nearly out of ammunition, the four SEALs, Murphy, Luttrell, Dietz and Axelson, continued the fight. By the end of the two-hour gunfight that careened through the hills and over cliffs, Murphy, Axelson and Dietz had been killed. An estimated 35 Taliban were also dead.
The fourth SEAL, Luttrell, was blasted over a ridge by a rocket propelled grenade and was knocked unconscious. Regaining consciousness some time later, Luttrell managed to escape badly injured and slowly crawl away down the side of a cliff. Dehydrated, with a bullet wound to one leg, shrapnel embedded in both legs, three vertebrae cracked; the situation for Luttrell was grim. Rescue helicopters were sent in, but he was too weak and injured to make contact. Traveling seven miles on foot he evaded the enemy for nearly a day. Gratefully, local nationals came to his aid, carrying him to a nearby village where they kept him for three days. The Taliban came to the village several times demanding that Luttrell be turned over to them. The villagers refused. One of the villagers made his way to a Marine outpost with a note from Luttrell, and U.S. forces launched a massive operation that rescued him from enemy territory on July 2.
By his undaunted courage, intrepid fighting spirit and inspirational devotion to his men in the face of certain death, Lt. Murphy was able to relay the position of his unit, an act that ultimately led to the rescue of Luttrell and the recovery of the remains of the three who were killed in the battle.
This was the worst single-day U.S. Forces death toll since Operation Enduring Freedom began nearly six years ago. It was the single largest loss of life for Naval Special Warfare since World War II.
The Naval Special Warfare (NSW) community will forever remember June 28, 2005 and the heroic efforts and sacrifices of our special operators. We hold with reverence the ultimate sacrifice that they made while engaged in that fierce fire fight on the front lines of the global war on terrorism (GWOT).

Cardinal & Pine, 6/25/24,
https://cardinalpine.com/2024/06/25/times-trump-insulted-veterans/
Here are my notes on the article:
# Re John McCain in 2015: Hes not a war hero, Trump said. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who werent captured.
# Dissing a Gold Star family - Khizr and Gahala KhanPakistani Americans whose son, Humayan, died during the Iraq war in 2004called out Trump for his public attacks on Muslims and implied that Trump had never read the Constitution. In a subsequent interview with ABC News, Trump suggested that Khizr Khan made the entire speech because his wife wasnt allowed to speak, drawing on implications that all Muslim women are subservient to their spouses. In reality, the Khans said in a followup interview, Gahala Khan chose to remain silent because speaking about her sons death was too painful. Trump also told ABC News that Humayan Khan would be alive today if hed been president, also suggesting that the US never would have entered a war with Iraq under his leadership.
# 2017: Expressed distaste for wounded veterans -- The then-president was reportedly inspired by a 2017 military parade he witnessed during a visit to France and requested that a similarly opulent parade be planned for the 4th of July in Washington, DC. The catch? Trump asked that wounded veterans be excluded from the parade, telling Kelly that Frances parade had featured vets with visible injuries or in wheelchairs.
Look, I dont want any wounded guys in the parade, Trump reportedly requested. This doesnt look good for me.
# 2018: Called WWI casualties losers and suckers ... stating that he didnt want to visit the cemetery because it was filled with losers. (Aisne-Marne American Military Cemetery outside Paris). Trump reportedly doubled down on his offensive comments later during the same trip to France, calling 1,800 US Marines suckers for being killed during the battle of Belleau Wood in 1918.
# 2018: Dismissed Navy SEAL Commander Adm. William McRaven -- The former president even suggested that McRaven took too much time in his efforts to capture bin Laden.
# 2020: Downplayed troops injuries following missile attack in Iraq - Eight US soldiers reportedly sought treatment for concussions or concussion-like symptoms in the aftermath of the attack on Ain al-Asad, while three others experienced psychological symptoms that led them to seek behavioral health treatment. Trump initially told the media that there were no US injuries. When questioned during a news conference about Pentagon reports of injured troops, he backtracked and downplayed the soldiers conditions, saying they were not very serious. I heard that they had headaches and a couple of other things, Trump continued. Ive seen people with no legs and no arms
I can consider them to be really bad injuries.

Into his dementia, he has lost the ability to express rational thoughts. This rambling unfinished comment he made is unbelievable. It has no basis in reality.
He couldn't find a realistic comparison that doesn't insult disabled vets?
And the article makes it sound like he made full and complete sentences while expressing this stupidity. But it was just a string of sentence fragments strung together, with non sequiturs thrown in now and then.
