PHOENIX (AP) Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will speak Friday about the present historical moment and his path forward, his campaign announced Wednesday, fueling growing speculation that Kennedy could drop out and support Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Kennedys running mate openly discussed the possibility on a podcast this week, saying the campaign was considering a move to join forces with Trump to limit the election chance of Kamala Harris, whose Democratic convention winds up Thursday night in Chicago.
The move would have once seemed unthinkable for Kennedy, a Democrat for most of his life and as the nephew of President John F. Kennedy and the son of Robert F. Kennedy a member of a beloved Democratic dynasty.
Last month, during the Republican National Convention, Kennedys son posted and then quickly deleted a video showing a phone call between Kennedy and Trump, in which the former president appeared to try to talk Kennedy into siding with him.

(791 posts)any bump Trump gets will be minimal and dependent on if RFK supporters actually turn out to vote as they are already low propensity voters to begin with

(15,854 posts)he just preferred to spoil the election for Democrats. Now that it's clear he's hurting Trump more, he wants no part in being a spoiler. Once again proving he has no principles, just like Trump. All his high-minded talk of giving voters options was BS.

Are you saying that the many dt supporters you know are so joyous now because RFK is going to support dt and they are now so ecstatic it's hardcore?

(1,750 posts)Not Trump. His supporters are not really supporters. They are more like, give me someone not Trump or Biden. Oh, the name Kennedy looks good. They are clueless double haters. You can already see that Harris picked up a few points when Biden withdrew.

(1,547 posts)he thinks there should be more choices than just the Democrats and republicans. He's also anti-covid vaccines because he claims to know someone who experienced really bad health issues immediately after getting the first covid shot available. He's coming for a week-long visit Saturday, so will be interesting to hear what he'll say if Kennedy does go for trump.
Skittles
(172,852 posts)that's a bit much, isn't it? There will ALWAYS be people who have issues but that in no way negates the overwhelming benefits of vaccinations
RFK Jr is a KOOK

(67,392 posts)If he's going for some kind of futile vote of conscience in a strongly blue state, then fine. Let him cast his token ballot.
But in contested states, the ones where Republican actively fund left-leaning 3rd party candidates, such gestures are self-defeating.
I'm sure that you know all this, of course, but I've literally never met a 3rd party fantasist who could name a viable candidate, one who wouldn't simply throw the election to Republicans.
Also, and forgive me for being blunt, his anti-vax rationalization is 100% ignorant bullshit.

(3,017 posts)must have truly devastated his mind. Think of RFK Jr. more as a mental patient than a malefactor. I doubt he'll hurt Kamala's campaign, but the numbers crunchers can address that better.
I look at the portrait of JFK in my den and then an image like this below and sigh.
