Trump Flashes 'Unusual' Thumbs Up and Smile at Graves of Fallen Marines

Donald Trump was photographed smiling and giving an awkward thumbs up Monday at the graves of fallen marines in Arlington National Cemetery.

The former president’s demeanor was criticized online as many were puzzled—and others outright offended—that he’d give his signature smirk and hand gesture at such a sensitive site.

“Smiling thumbs up at the grave is unusual to say the least,” posted Adam Kinzinger, a former Republican lawmaker who’s a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard.

Trump was in Virginia to lay a wreath that commemorated the third anniversary of 13 American soldiers being killed at the Abbey Gate of Kabul Airport during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Two members of Donald Trump’s campaign staff had a verbal and physical altercation Monday with an official at Arlington National Cemetery where the former president participated in a wreath laying ceremony, NPR has learned.

A source with knowledge of the incident said the cemetery official tried to prevent Trump staffers from filming and photographing in a section where recent U.S. casualties are buried. The source said Arlington officials had made clear that only cemetery staff members are authorized to take photographs or film in the area, known as Section 60.

Hideously disgraceful. Using Arlington National Cemetery - a burial ground that many consider to be sacred because of all the fallen soldiers and sailors buried there - for a PHOTO OP. While he stands there right behind a tombstone, smiling and gives a thumbs up - Dear God, what a desecration! I feel sorry for the survivors of all those lost Americans, that this bastard uses it for a PHOTO OP. To promote himself and his wretched damnable ambition to get back into the White House.

Every day I think I may have reached the highest limit line of my horror and disgust, he comes along and does something so hideously BEYOND detestable. This is historic. No one has stooped so low.
