Trump bizarrely claims people have stopped eating bacon because of wind power

Donald Trump bizarrely claimed people dont eat bacon anymore because of wind power while taking questions at his latest campaign speech in Wisconsin.
The former president made the bold claim as an answer to a young rally-goer asking what his plan is, "to make life more affordable and bring down inflation for someone like me." "It's probably the question I get most," Trump responded at first, eventually launching into what on critic denounced as a "word salad."
The GOP presidential nominee said, "You take a look at bacon and some of these products, and some people don't eat bacon anymore." "And we are going to get the energy prices down," he continued.
"When we get energy down you know this was caused by their horrible energy. Wind they want wind all over the place," he added. "But when it doesn't blow we have a little problem," Trump added.

The media has normalized this. They have yet to bring in any medical specialists, whether gerontologists or psychiatric professionals, to dissect this repeated aberrant behavior, prefering to instead, dismiss it. Meanwhile, they have devoted significant resources to search furiously for any sign of health failure by Democrats, and when none is found, they will manufacture something.

Now I only cook bacon when the wind isn't blowing.

(6,380 posts)This is what I hate most about Trump.
He says something so delusional that it would get anyone else who said a thing thrown into a mental health facility. Then the MSM has to discuss it like its real thing and then they have to talk about it for two or three days until Trump has another brain fart.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

(169,895 posts)so they dismiss it out of hand instead of actually doing some damn analysis of it and critiquing accordingly - non-stop. Instead, they go after literal "oops" moments by everyone else and spend countless hours commenting on and magnifying while ignoring a clearly mentally ill man. Much of it is because they are a bunch of cowards who recoil once he starts bullying them into submission.
It mirrors their CONTINUED insistence they "he will pivot", something they have promised for decades now (and this goes back to the days of his many bankruptcies and refusals to pay for anything he contracted).

Story by Kyle Osullivan & Emily Hodgkin 2d
The 78-year-old frequently ditches the teleprompter to embark on wild digressions, including his bizarre reference to the 'late, great Hannibal Lecter'. Yet, a political commentator has spotted an emerging pattern where news anchors attempt to rationalise Trump's tirades as soon as they conclude.
Journalist Aaron Rupar has even coined the term 'sane-wash' to describe the efforts by reporters and pundits to decipher the intent behind Trump's disjointed monologues.
Rupar's latest objection was directed at Fox News' coverage of Trump's address to the National Guard Association's conference in Detroit on Monday. Anchor Martha MacCallum suggested that Trump was "hitting three big themes consistently" - crime, the economy, and immigration, reports the Express US.
This interpretation came despite Trump's talk of establishing a 'Space National Guard', his desire to 'fire' those responsible for the Afghanistan withdrawal 'like The Apprentice', and his claim that the US is out of ammunition. Rupar called out the network with a tweet: "Fox News also sane-washes Trump's bonkers word salad."

(8,204 posts)I swear, he has no idea what's going on with wind & solar. Look at all the PPAs (power purchase agreements) signed by utilities over the past couple years & you'll see how wind & solar have been the most common & CHEAPEST sources of energy for a couple years now. So, he wants to switch from the cheapest sources of energy to ones that are more expensive & he thinks that will bring prices DOWN?
The dude is ignorant & he probably doesn't know what a PPA is, much less paid attention to rates.

(1,787 posts)Trump has some kind of issues with windmills. Since I don't think there are any in NYC, where did it come from? A psychiatrist could spend a career figuring that moron out. Add in JD Vance, and you've got an entire institution on it. Add in MAGAs, there's not enough medical help in the world.
I think I'm having BLTs for lunch today. Yum. I don't think the wind is blowing, so it should be safe!

If you drive through parts of Texas, California, the Midwest or look off the coast of several northeastern states you can see enormous wind turbines, their rotations powering millions of homes as part of a push to make wind part of our countrys energy future. But not so in Florida, a state whose lower wind speeds have kept it from becoming a wind energy hot spot. And lawmakers are poised to pass a bill that could help keep it that way by banning offshore wind turbines in state waters.
(snip)
Why doesnt Florida have wind energy?
Florida has zero operational offshore or onshore wind farms, according to 2023 data collected by the federal government. The reason is pretty simple: We dont have strong, sustained winds, at least on land. When it comes to offshore, other states waters, particularly in the Northeast and parts of the west coast, have stronger winds than Florida, making them earlier targets for this technology. Hurricanes also pose higher risks to the equipment.
So why ban offshore wind?
The bills would prohibit offshore wind turbines within 1 mile of the coastline or intracoastal waterways, as well as within all state waters, which extend 3 nautical miles from shore on the Atlantic side of the state, and 9 nautical miles on the gulf side. The bills sponsors have said the ban is sensible because wind energy isnt feasible in Florida. Renner, the House speaker, said it will protect the states prized beach views.
I think its very similar to offshore drilling. Floridians dont want to sit on the beach and look at oil derricks, and they dont want to sit on the beach and look at big windmills, he said. It doesnt preclude them from doing it elsewhere in the state where its possible, but I think thats a fair place to land.
