Harris looks to Biden for a boost in Pennsylvania as the two are set to attend a Labor Day parade

Source: AP

Updated 12:14 AM EDT, September 2, 2024

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden are co-headlining a campaign event Monday in the marquee battleground state of Pennsylvania as Harris balances presenting herself as “a new way forward” while remaining intensely loyal to Biden and the policies he has pushed.

The pair will attend Pittsburgh’s Labor Day parade and offer some remarks, the first time the two have shared a speaking slot on the political stage together since the surprising election shakeup that provided a fresh jolt of Democratic enthusiasm to the 2024 election.

Harris’ campaign has said Pennsylvania voters are newly energized since Harris moved to the top of the ticket six weeks ago, with tens of thousands of new volunteers signed up to canvass for her and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee. Harris’ and Biden’s appearance at the parade, one of the largest such gatherings in the country, is part of a battleground state blitz with just over two months until Election Day.

Harris, 59, has sought to appeal to voters by positioning herself as a break from poisonous politics, rejecting the acerbic rhetoric of her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, while looking to move beyond the Biden era as well. Yet while her delivery may be very different from Biden’s, Harris’ agenda is chock-full of the same issues he has championed: capping the cost of prescription drugs, the Affordable Care Act, the economy and helping families afford child care.

in Pa. on campaign ads. Filthy, slimy, Willie Horton, lying campaign ads, rapid fire, one after the other. Ads attacking Kamala and ads attacking Bob Casey,

My guess is the ads are 10 to 1 Magat v Democratic.

TSF wants Pa. bad and he is throwing buckets full of slime every damn day.

Sporting events are filled with Magat ads. I watched Peacock yesterday to see early play in the golf Fed Ex cup and TSF had slime ball ads on Peacock.

TSF won Pa. once, we better be ready again. I see lots of new Trump signs here in rural Pa.

The testimonial ads are the slimiest. I hope that people are as turned off by those ads as I am.

I actually heard my first Harris ad on the *radio* yesterday and have been seeing them for over a month - often 2 - 3 of them, back to back, on TV. I think I may have finally seen one 45 ad about a week ago that was non-McCormick related.

I think the post-Labor Day blitz that had been announced, is about to happen. Am guessing that it is based on when/where they reserved commercial time on local/cable stations and they chose to do it after Labor Day in a more detailed set of markets.

I have been trying to capture how her ads have gone out on the cable/broadcast news sites that have an embedded stream of their live broadcasts and managed to finally capture a screenshot of one that appeared on CNN just yesterday (before that, I have seen them regularly on the ABC News Live embedded stream but was never fast enough to screen cap it as it was running ) -

TSF ads far outnumber the Kamala/Casey ads, it isn't close.

I live in central Pa. and it is non-stop TSF/McCormick ads, where do you live, maybe the area makes a difference?

And it is literally the OPPOSITE here. I thought you knew where I was from! I am in Philly.

Surrogates and ads and billboards have been all over Philly - probably because when this city turns out, it can overwhelm the vote in the rest of the state since we do have 1.6 million people.

I just posted this yesterday regarding the outreach that is going on here -

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Harris-Walz campaign is focusing on the next generation of voters. Democratic U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost of Florida, the first Gen-Z member of Congress, made a stop in Philadelphia on Saturday to motivate young voters to vote.

Young people showed up to the main campus of the Community College of Philadelphia in packs, waiting to hear Frost speak. KC Miller was among them.

“I think it's really inspiring that a young person has taken that role and is crossing the country for Kamala. So I'm really interested to hear what he has to say.”

Mayor Cherelle Parker was on hand to introduce the congressman, and she shared her admiration for the young politician. “For those of you who know me, you know, I'm a truth teller. And I have been fan-girling since he walked through the door,” she said. After local Democrats, including City Council members Isaiah Thomas and Katherine Gilmore Richardson joined him on stage, Frost shared his message with young voters.

To be fair, i was just looking at TPM this morning and Josh Marshall has had a couple blog posts mentioning the saturation that 45 has done in the redder areas of PA including these posts -

I know Shapiro and Fetterman and Casey have been making the rounds to the more rural red areas and *supposedly* the big ad buy is supposed to start "after Labor Day".

I'm sick to death of political ads. I hit the mute button when they're on. I can't listen to them anymore. My husband watches a local newscast every night & 80% of the ads are political. I'm in a swing state too (GA.)

It is an inherent D+20 state, and both Biden and Hillary won the state by about 30 points in 2016 and 2020.

Methinks Kamala Harris might do well here.

The only ads I see (and get mailed flyers for) are local politics, like mayor, city council and local public school superintendent.

Nothing national, because that will be the Democratic endorsed candidate that winds up winning.

The good thing is that we have a "supermajority" in the state assembly legislature (at least 70% of the state House/Senate is REAL and liberal Democrat), so Repukes here can't do squat except piss and moan.

We passed a law saying that EVERYONE in the state gets a mail-in ballot after seeing how well it worked in Oregon. We can still vote on Election Day if we want (why, what for?), but the mail-in option is front and center for all. The last time I voted on Election Day was 2016, for Hillary. I've voted by mail ever since then, because I didn't want to stand in line for 40+ minutes. It is also really easy to register to vote. You are automatically registered when you get your state ID/DL at the local DMV. You can also register at any state school and/or governmental office (like courthouse). You can also change your voting party affiliation easily too. It is also really easy to check your mail-in ballot acceptance too. Easy as eating a slice of pie. Any time a MAGAt tries to lie about voter fraud in our state, we tell them to STFU (and we aren't nice about it either) and take their bullshit elsewhere.

Governor Newsom and nearly all of our "top" state officeholders are Democrats which makes things really easy and "hunky dory".
