Republicans blame moderators for Trump's poor debate performance

PHILADELPHIA — Republicans know Donald Trump didn’t win Tuesday’s debate. And they know who to blame: the media.

“It was three-on-one. They continued to engage in so-called fact-checking of Donald Trump. They never did that to Kamala Harris,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) told reporters. “You have two moderators there who acted as agents of the Harris campaign,” said David Bossie, a longtime Trump adviser and Republican National Committee member from Maryland.

“It was a little outrageous that they would fact-check only one candidate on the fly,” said Tim Murtaugh, who was the communications director for Trump’s 2020 campaign.

Trump had been setting the stage for weeks, arguing that the debate would be biased against him. Soon after the debate began, the complaints began rolling in — on social media, at watch parties across the nation — as if on cue: If anyone thought Trump was having a bad debate, it’s because of the media.

The posture from Trump’s backers on Tuesday stood in contrast to the June debate against President Joe Biden on CNN, which didn’t have any fact checking and left Trump saying he was treated “very fairly.”

Kamala, not so much.

If Kamala had said some of the things Trump came out with, she would have been fact checked too.
But she didn't.

Moderators not to blame.
Trump's revision of history and alarmist make-believe were to blame.

Loved the bit where cats and dogs were getting eaten by immigrants, and Ukraine/Palestine wars wouldn't be happening if he was in charge.

23. I wish they would have corrected him about how much money China pays in tariffs.

The tariffs are paid not by the countries they are levied against, but by the companies that import the products (and then is a factor in the final price of the product to consumers, which is why they can be inflationary). If Apple buys lithium batteries from China, and tariffs are increased, those tariffs are paid by Apple, not China.

There is one way China might be paying tariffs, though... if the American company that imports the product is actually owned by China. But even then, it would become part of the cost of the product that is passed down the distribution chain until it is ultimately paid for by the consumer.

The only real "cost" to the other country is one of reduced sales of their products that can occur because they are effectively made more expensive.

It's a complicated issue and of course Chump will never explain that tariffs are really a federally-levied sales tax that Americans would have to pay, and nothing more. Kamala needs to respond and make it clear to voters what Chump is really proposing.

It's beyond anything the fact-checking mods could have done on the fly.
