Trump says he would withhold California fire aid unless Newsom 'signs those papers'
Source: Los Angeles Times
Former President Trump painted a dystopian image of California as crime-ridden, water-starved and flooded with immigrants in the country illegally, which he cast as a warning about what will happen to the nation if Kamala Harris is elected president.
Im here today in California with a very simple message for the American people: We cannot allow comrade Kamala Harris and the communist left to do to America what they did to California, he told reporters Friday from his bluff-top golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes, with the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island in the background. The state of California is a mess, with people leaving, and nothings gonna stop them.
Trump said if he were elected, he would stop sending California federal firefighting aid unless Gov. Gavin Newsom, whom he referred to repeatedly as Newscum, enacted his policy priorities on issues such as taxes.
If he doesnt sign those papers, we wont give him money to put out all his fires. And if we dont give him all the money to put out the fires, hes got problems, Trump said. Hes a lousy governor.

How long would it be before people in those states would be begging for states like New York, California, Massachusetts, Connecticut etc, to come to their rescue?
Of course, dividing up the country is just what the MAGAts say they want. You know, the "Keep the government out of my Medicare!" folks.
No offense to all the good Democrats in those states, who of course shouldn't have to suffer on account of the idiocy of their fellow citizens.
But what would happen if President Biden said no more hurricane relief aid until Florida and Louisiana change their laws on abortion?

(3,720 posts)...anecdotally I'd say a lot of the people leaving Cali are right-wingers fleeing the high cost of living for red states without state income tax and with lower housing costs. They had careers here and created a comparatively larger retirement nest egg due to higher California salaries. They bought their houses 30 years prior and sold them at inflated California prices taking 6 or 7 figures of tax free money with them to rural Arizona, Texas, Nevada or Utah.
With cons leaving at a higher rate then libs, I think the exodus is making Cali bluer overall.
At the same time, they're taking their suitcases full of cash into retirement and are inflating housing prices in these red states, fomenting anti-California sentiment even more.
No matter which way you cut it, Trump is a world class asshole.

(1,527 posts)See if they can handle it themselves. Bet you they can't. In fact, I looked up the 11 most expensive natural disasters in US history. Do you want to know how many of them were in red states? Of the 11, at least 8 of them had the most damage in a red state, mainly Florida, Texas, and Louisiana. Heck, Texas and its power grid couldn't even handle the extreme winter in 2021, and that was in extremely rare circumstances, but a huge reason why it was so bad was due to decisions made years ago to be its own power grid. Mother Nature doesn't discriminate between red or blue states, but clearly some can handle it better than others.

(1,527 posts)When Hurricane Ian hit Florida in 2022 and the big Texas Freeze came in 2021, in both instances Biden could have easily have said, "No, you guys are ungrateful, you're on your own". Then they have the gall to complain about Biden/Harris. Such ungrateful bastards.

Luckily, they are vastly outnumbered by the sane residents. Get out of our state, Orange Moron! And take your MAGAT followers with you!

Trump got away with slow walking PPE (and even confiscating PPE to sell on the open market from states that tried to procure their own PPE) to blue cities at the start of COVID. Trump got away with delaying to California for fires already.
This partisan bullshit needs to stop.

(2,634 posts)Trump doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning California, and he's not the kind of person to go to a state to help downparty races when his momentum is clearly down. So why he is there?
My suspicion is that he's performing damage control with his Tech Bro investors who are getting cold feet after the debate.
