Sam Elliott's Cussing In Folksy Campaign Ad May Make You Giddyup To Vote For Harris

Sam Elliott swears by Kamala Harris in a new campaign ad. (Watch it below.) The 80-year-old actor, known for his down-home delivery in Westerns and other movies and TV shows, implored voters to embrace the courage of the Democratic nominee and avoid the lies and hate of Donald Trump.
Are we really going back down that same fucking broken road? Elliott says in the video put out by the Lincoln Project on Monday.
The imagery is often the stock stuff you might find in other campaign commercials ― wilderness, farms and the American flag ― but Elliotts words penetrate as if they flew out of a crackling campfire. Its time to be a man and vote for a woman, Elliott says.
We hear ya, pardner.

(341 posts)One of the best TV spots I've ever seen. Succinct, direct, to the point, and calls out sexism as the stupid obsession it is. And all delivered in Sam's delicious, hard-as-nails voice.

(602 posts)I remember Iimperfectly) an election in NYC in the 1970s in which one candidate ran a radio commercial in which he described opposition assertions as "bullshit". And the commercials were played uncensored on the radio. Evidently federal regulations that a candidate's commercials must be run as submitted, without any alteration, trumped (if I can use that word) the usual FCC regs about rough language. I do remember that several interviewers tried to get this candidate to use that word in interviews but he was aware that news programs and interview programs were not as sacrosanct as a candidate's own commercials.
So run Sam Elliot's commercial with the F word. Not only will people pay attention but some will eagerly look forward to repetitions of that commercial just to verify that Sam really used that word on TV.

(14,368 posts)and maybe more so without the most boring and overused word on the planet these days. And frankly, just vulgar to a fairly large part of the population.
My vote is no, even though Ive been known to curse like a sailor, with great enthusiasm, quite regularly.

We'll see how much air it gets or even needs with all the cord-cutters.
AFAIK, Sam kept his beliefs close to the vest until this cycle, where I think I heard him in an uncredited ad for Biden around February. I think he's old enough not to care what his fans and relatives think
this one is too important.
