Donald Trump suggests police being 'extraordinarily rough' would end retail theft

Source: ABC News

September 30, 2024, 12:13 AM

At a rally in Pennsylvania on Sunday, former President Donald Trump suggested "one rough hour" of law enforcement would deter retail theft.

After falsely claiming crime is up in the U.S. under President Joe Biden, mostly due to migrant crime, Trump brought up seeing stores in New York City and San Francisco locking up their merchandise behind glass doors.

"See, we have to let the police do their job. And if they have to be extraordinarily rough --" Trump trailed off as his rally crowd cheered. Trump went on to claim, without evidence, that people are walking out of stores with items like air conditioning units and refrigerators "on their back," "And the police aren't allowed to do their job," he said.

"They're told if you do anything, you're going to lose your pension; you're going to lose your family, your house, your car. The police want to do it. The Border Patrol wants to do it. ... They're not allowed to do it because the liberal left won't let 'em do it," he said on stage.

Why not just do away with due process all together? Declare the 4-8th amendments null and void and use whatever means necessary.

Adolf Hitler did it why not the orange menace. After all he’s going to protect all the women. Anybody crosses him, off with the head, just like they did in the olden days. He’s almost out of control now verbally, so just give him the power and he’ll cut a wide swath through this country.

Ya think some of the less crazy voters are finally starting to get an idea of what a raving lunatic this character is ?

So one night, MAGAts go out and beat up people they don't like the looks of. Then the next night all those victims families and friends go out and beat them up, or shoot them more likely. Then the MAGAts come out again, then victims fight back, back and forth. And what have you got?

What a stupid man he is. Does he think we liberals don't know how to fight back? We can buy and use guns too.

He just wants to see Americans hurting and suffering and doesn't care if they are his supporters too. Just look at how many more GOPers died from COVID.

I study dictators and this chills me. Given all his comments in the past about executing people & shooting looters and his admiration for leaders specialized in mass repression, it's not hard to imagine what "one really violent day" would mean.

but this quote is misleading. Trump didn't just "make comments" about executions. Trump used executions to gin up support before the election and as he tried to overturn the results of the election.

I highlighted all the parts where Trump describes implementing kristallnacht / The Purge to rid society of shoplifters.

Read the highlighted parts only & you’ll see it’s hard to argue he’s not talking abt ordering police to shoot ppl for petty theft in order to “fix” it.

Large scale retail theft is usually run by organized crime, who hire drug addicts and the homeless. If they didn't have those people to do the dirty work, they would be out of business. If we worked on treating drug addiction and getting homeless people housed, they wouldn't have any "workers". It would be a hell of a lot cheaper than supporting the law enforcement industrial complex too.

It's also supported by people purchasing the stolen items on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist and eBay. If you want to cut down on retail theft, go after the folks selling the goods and DON'T BE A BUYER!

Since the fucking GOP loons here in the PA Senate refuse to raise the state's minimum wage, we are lower than EVERY STATE that borders PA including of all places, WV, because we default to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 that hasn't been raised since 2007.
