Trump Drags Hurricane Helene Into the Election Campaign

Source: Daily Beast

Updated Sep. 30, 2024 8:55AM EDT / Published Sep. 30, 2024 5:43AM EDT

As the government rolls out assistance to the hundreds of thousands affected by Hurricane Helene over the weekend, the Republican campaign appears engaged in a slightly different kind of damage control.

The Trump camp has scheduled a Monday pit-stop for the Republican candidate in Valdosta, Georgia—a key battleground state, where at least 17 people are reported to have died—after his suggestion at a Walker, Michigan rally that hurricane victims will “be OK” sparked outcry on Friday.

He’s expected to receive a briefing on the extent of the devastation and to assist with the distribution of relief, as well as taking the opportunity to “deliver remarks to the press,” according to an emailed statement from his team.

While Republican supporters have criticized the Harris campaign for taking Trump’s Friday statement out of context, it also comes after he spoke in candidly politicized terms about the disaster at another rally in Erie, Pennsylvania on Sunday.

should, at her next rallies, hold up a roll of paper towels and tell the crowd it is Trump's proven technique for "helping" disaster victims.

That would be hilarious, and Really, Really, Really piss off Trump.....Truth hurts.....

She should follow up with a massive list of everything Biden and her started doing for those states hit, even before the storm made land fall.........contradict all the FLAGRANT LIES the RepubliCON politicians in those states complaining about Biden/Harris turning a deaf ear to their needs........

Doesn’t he know Helene made landfall in Florida n if he wanted to help, he could donate to the many rescue organizations/charities without causing a disturbance. Or..does he need the chaos n drama so he stays in the news cycle? Time to treat him like the private citizen he is

Trump is supposed to be giving remarks in Valdosta GA this afternoon, but his flightpath shows him headed to West Palm Beach.

He must have landed within the last half hour.

Edited: there was a business jet in Valdosta at about the time that Trump was there. Its registration number is N900FJ. Its presence might be related. It’s back at its home base now.

he'll only receive a "briefing" (probably by phone or telecon) and that's about it.

I'm sure he will gush all over the place because it's a red state.

He thinks he's frigging Jefferson Davis.

The problem her team has is choosing from so many options. Instead of dreading stuff like this, I tend to wait to see how much worse he makes it for his campaign staff.
