Gunfire strikes Southwest plane on tarmac of Dallas airport, officials say
Source: CBS News
There were no injuries after a Southwest flight carrying passengers was struck by gunfire on the tarmac of Dallas Love Field Friday night, authorities said.
Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was preparing for departure to Indianapolis when "a bullet apparently struck the right side of the aircraft under the flight deck," a Southwest spokesperson told CBS News in a statement.
The airline said no one was hurt. A spokesperson for Dallas Love Field said in an email that the aircraft returned to its gate after sustaining damage from a "security incident" and the passengers deplaned. The runway was also temporarily closed, but has since reopened.

In its own statement provided to CBS News, the Federal Aviation Administration said that the Boeing 737-800 "was reportedly struck by gunfire near the cockpit."

I'm at a loss for words. Our country is fucked in so many ways.
Just a few days ago the FAA issued a 30 ban on US airlines flying to Haiti because of gunfire striking planes, how long before important foreign airlines are banned from flying to the US?

In 2021, Texas reported 1,006,555 firearms licenses and 45.7% of adults say they live in homes with guns.
In an average year, 4,122 people die and 7,726 are wounded by guns in Texas.
This equates to 11 people killed and 21 wounded every day in the Lone Star State.
Luckily no one was killed or wounded in this idiotic incident.

If a person was 3000-5000 feet..that might be the distance that the bullet hit under the flight deck and NOT THE PILOTS> Geez..

(4,398 posts)*choosing* not to come to America, and to do as little business as possible with us. Like tourism, which I figure is going to be taking a real hit by the coming summer. The U.S. has proven itself to be a lawless, violent country. Some foreign countries may actually issue travel warnings and alerts on the U.S., much like we do on foreign countries where violence is endemic. trumps election is going to hurt this country in more ways than we ever could have originally imagined.
