He was the first to announce 4 years ago, 2 days after he got beat, that he wasn't going to do anything for the next 4 years, except get paid. He and the rest of the repukes have done nothing but plan and scheme to obstruct everything. They must be so pissed (we know McCain is) about losing again. Empire (Turkey) until 1912 when the Italians took it over.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottoman_Tripolitania

An interesting detail about the Benghazi attack is that the ambassador from Turkey and our ambassador were meeting at the consulate. I really wonder why.

And I wonder whether there are any diehards whose families benefited from the Ottoman Empire's presence who have a sentimental attachment to Turkey.

You still meet Austrians who are quite attached to the idea of Sudtirol, that is reuniting parts of Northern Italy with Austria as it was at one time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Tyrol

You never know. Revolutions bring out all the crazies.

The Ottomans were a long time ago, but there are still significant European business interests in Libya. The city of Benghazi was the seat of the old royal family, which itself was just a puppet for Italy. It is no coincidence that it was also the seat of the rebellion. I saw one protester holding up a picture of the old king in the run up to the war.

While the media portrays this as having been a sort of peoples revolution(and there is some small truth to that) it is important to realize that the leadership was and is now the European-backed old Arab aristocracy. Note the creepy complete absence of black Libyan protesters in news footage.

We all know that Sens. McCain, Susan Collins and Kelly Ayotte were 1) campaigning like bandits for Scott Brown's re-election and 2) suggesting John Kerry for Sec. of State, so that 3) Kerry's senate seat could eventually be filled by Scott Brown.

This had nothing to do with Susan Rice. It's a craven political move to get their dopey buddy back in the senate.

The rethuglicans throwing temper tantrums when Democrats objected to john bolton being nominated as Ambassador to the UN. OMG, you would have thought the world was ending. The president deserves to have the candidate HE wants to work with approved. Who are these democrats to object to the person the president needs to assist his administration. Then dumbya appoints him during Christmas recess.

Anyone else recall that drama?

Rice wasn't even nominated! The suggestion she could be nominated energized the the trio of feigned outrage.

I am as furious today with the verbal attacks on Rice as I was after Anita Hill testified and the way she was attacked.

In Prep-school he was nickname McNasty by his classmates. He was and always was nothing more than a little prick. Nothing more than a chicken-shit turn coat that has been painted by the Republicans as a hero. Read what the two top officers said about his capture and his agreement to provide information if they treated him in hospital for his injuries. They testified that he wasn't tortured before he agreed to their terms.
