Choking up and wiping away tears, President Barack Obama said on Friday that "our hearts are broken" for the victims of a deadly shooting rampage at a Connecticut elementary school and called for "meaningful action" to curb gun violence.

"We've endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years," Obama said during a somber televised appearance in the White House briefing room just hours after one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history.

"As a country, we have been through this too many times," Obama said, ticking off a list of recent shootings.

"And we're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics," he said, in an apparent reference to the influence of the National Rifle Association, a powerful pro-gun lobby, in Congress.

know that he was sincere. He has a thing for these young children, and they for him. Don't think I have ever seen how kids warm up to some one the way they do to this man.

Meaningful steps means - SANE, rational gun control that we ALL can LIVE with.

NO MORE 5 - 10 year olds should have to die like this.

No more people going to a movie should have to watch their backs.

But it's a long term WAGE the PEACE type of action and can't be laced with venom.

THAT gives the whinny ass people clinging to their assault weapons, a reason to say THEY are the victims.

Not EVERY gun owner is bad.

SO we have to be as sane and rational as we want THEM to be in order to get the job done.
