Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker blocks Jan. 6 rioters from state jobs after Trump pardons
Source: NBC
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is blocking those who took part in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol from working in state jobs, ignoring President Donald Trump's attempt to offer them a clean slate last week in a sweeping set of pardons and commutations.
Late Thursday, Pritzker directed the states Department of Central Management Services, the states primary hiring authority, to restrict hiring of those who took part in the attack on the Capitol by declaring they had taken part in infamous and disgraceful conduct that is antithetical to the mission of the State.
Pritzkers new directive marks the first and most direct pushback to Trumps power spree that has tested the bounds of presidential authority through a fray of executive orders, including some that have drawn judicial rebuke. The Democratic governor of the Midwestern blue state has for years acted as an antagonist to Trump.

(31 posts)I appreciate the intelligence and clear thinking that the Democratic political leaders are contributing to the current Trump cabinet hearings. It is in contrast to the low level, mean spirited and vengeful approach of the Republican senators.

(13,292 posts)While a pardon forgives the crime and may restore certain rights, such as the right to vote or hold public office, it does not erase the conviction from the individual's record. The conviction remains as a historical fact, and the criminal record will still show the conviction, often with a notation indicating the pardon.
If someone wants their criminal record cleared, they would need to pursue an expungement, which is a separate legal process that can seal or erase the record from public view.
Either way, you'll get a bad note in your high school permanent record.
