CBS says it will turn over an unedited transcript of its October interview with Kamala Harris to the Federal Communications Commission, part of President Donald Trumps ongoing fight with the network over how it handled a story about his opponent.
Trump sued CBS for $10 million over the 60 Minutes interview, claiming it was deceptively edited to make Harris look good. Published reports said that CBS parent company, Paramount, has been talking to Trumps lawyers about a settlement.
The network said Friday that it was compelled by Brendan Carr, Trumps appointee as FCC chairman, to turn over the transcripts and camera feeds of the interview for a parallel investigation by the commission. 60 Minutes has resisted releasing transcripts for this and all of its interviews, to avoid second-guessing of its editing process.
The case, particularly a potential settlement, is being closely watched by advocates for press freedom and by journalists within CBS, whose lawyers called Trumps lawsuit completely without merit and promised to vigorously fight it after it was filed.

(13,560 posts)We all know that the Trump team will edit the tapes to make Harriss answers seem scrambled and then say it was CBS that had to make her look good. Harris should sue CBS for the unedited tape as well to use against any edited tape being used by Republicans. Remember the Republican playbook that any Democrat who has a potential future as president has to be destroyed, as they did with Clinton. And Trump will want to destroy her because she is a woman and black.

(364 posts)if an interview (of them) was done "properly"? I guess I shouldn't be shocked because for nearly 35 years I've resisted white boy, punk ass racist, mediocre or incompetent - so called "Christians" my entire life telling anyone who would listen how weak & entitled they are.
Therefore, to see punk ass white boys bow down like cuckolds to someone shouldn't surprise me at all, because I long ago realized all their posturing, flexing and braying was for show.
American white boy Republican so called "Christians" are cuckolds and kneeling to their leader, like cuckolds do.

(15 posts)Nothing you see on TV. The movies. The songs you listen to is ever edited, right?
Perhaps Kamala should sue also as it was HER response that was allegedly edited!
Id much rather hear her positive message than anything out of the orange menace.

(25,073 posts)Fascists dont like a free press.
Actually, the Harris campaign should have demanded it be unedited in the first place.
By not doing so, it make the appearance of something hiding in the edit.
Kid Berwyn
(25,073 posts)Edited or unedited, it is CBS property. It is standard practice to edit an interview for clarity, length, etc.
Now the NAZI Trumpf demands compensation because an interview with a public figure hurt his fragile feelings.
There is no basis for him to do this, other than to intimidate the press.
FUCK TRUMP.
Dog Walkers Rock
(4 posts)Kamala Harris does not need editing to look good. What CBS should have done was turn around and air the whole unedited interview. Heavily promoted it in advance being sure to get it out there that Trump was suing them and now the FCC was compelling them to turn it over. Then after the interview was over, have a panel of Constitutional scholars discuss freedom of the press and the implications of what the Trump administration is doing.

(197,167 posts)In our research, we found that CBS News did broadcast two different versions of Harris' answers to a series of questions she was asked about Netanyahu. One version aired on Oct. 6 on the Sunday-morning CBS News program "Face the Nation," and the other on "60 Minutes" the following day, during the show's primetime election special. As of this writing, both versions remain available online.

So - see the Snopes link at the response below your question - they aired both responses but these petty little pieces of crap are focusing on just the 60 Minutes episode

Paramount is considering settling which is bad enough. But now the FCC is stepping in? Tax dollars to investigate CBS's editing practices?
Paramount caving is going to feed the FCC investigation....fuel to restrict free speech, IMO. This is why Paramount should fight ...fight... fight. The more that cave the easier to get stomped.
The FCC stepping in is not a good thing.....all IMO

But
Trump won.
It seems to me the person who really has a cause of action here is Harris because several of Trumps interviews were edited to make him look like hes not the crazy uncle no one invites to Thanksgiving dinner anymore.
