Ahead of tariffs starting Tuesday, President Donald Trump posted on social media that he spoke Monday morning with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and would be speaking to him again at 3:00 P.M. But the Republican president also used the post to repeat his complaints that Canada has been uncooperative, despite decades of friendship and partnerships that range from World War II to the response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States

WASHINGTON (AP) Ahead of tariffs starting Tuesday, President Donald Trump posted on social media that he spoke Monday morning with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and would be speaking to him again at 3:00 P.M.

AP stenographers copy-pasted tRump quotes (lies) about his reasoning, with no pushback.

Trudeau's unpopularity has nothing to do with tariffs or how he will react, yet you invoke it. It predated tRump's election by a year, yet you invoke it. Trudeau / Liberals are getting a bit of a bump and Pierre Axe The Tax Poilievre has found himself with the rug pulled out from under him since he was planning to run against Trudeau with all slogans and no policies.
Under-estimate Trudeau and Canada at your peril.

(98,883 posts)rushed down to Mar a Lago, and the sociopath sure pushed the narrative that Trudeau caved. I realize that anything the pathological liar says cannot be trusted, but just his travelling to Mar a Lago before the sociopath assumed office was viewed as a sign of weakness by a good number of folks here.
As an aside, for the boxing match that you made reference to, an interesting analogy was when musk challenged zuckerberg to a "cage fight. Both are deplorable characters, but zuckerberg who is an expert in Brazilian jiu-jitsu MMA, would have destroyed musk in the cage, which no doubt was why musk backed down with his sorry excuse about a muscle injury.

If it does happen I think there will be a dramatic down day in the market tomorrow. It will take a little time before the idiots in the country start to feel the impact though I think.

The key sign of this was that Canda's tariffs would not be applied to material alreadyin the pipeline: in other words, it was all going to be spectacle, and that's exactly what it turned out to be.
