GOP's Susan Collins to back Tulsi Gabbard confirmation

Source: The Hill

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) announced Monday that she will support Tulsi Gabbard to become director of national intelligence (DNI), giving her a key boost in her confirmation push.

Collins was considered a crucial swing vote on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is set to meet Tuesday afternoon to potentially advance Gabbard toward a floor vote. Last month, Collins had expressed reservations about Gabbard.

On behalf of cheap lawn chairs everywhere, I’m here to tell you that they resent the comparison: Cheap lawn chairs might fold, but they’ll at least do their job…if just for a little while. Susan “I’m concerned” Collins, on the other hand…

Her next election. We should be looking for a good candidate now. It’s probably one of our best opportunities for a pickup.

Sadly there are a lot of voters who generally don’t know much about the candidates, so basic name recognition, incumbents typically have that advantage. Also, they have a financial advantage. Those seeking special favors and even just your everyday voters tend to vote for a proven winner.

IMO, she has been wishy-washy for a long time - lots of times she plays the game of voting against her party to gain favor from her constituents - all the while knowing that her vote will not determine the outcome anyway - pure politics.

I suspect that her position on the Senate Intelligence Committee meant that she would not dare to buck the Party.

Disappointing but the real world.

Doesn't she know that her "reservations" and "concerns" that always turn into "falling into step with the party line" has gotten to the point where thinking people not only do not take her seriously, but laugh at her foolish antics.

Hell, we will no longer have any national security. Voting to put a Russian asset in charge of the nation's secrets is treasonous. Every single person who votes for her should be arrested for treason.

How many elections are we going to think Maine and this country are going to do the right thing? They elect Collins in Maine, Cruz in Texas, every asshole in Florida, and fuck the fly over country. We're not the best country on earth, I don't know who is but it's not us.

I week or so ago the betting odds implied a greater than 50% chance that her nomination would fail... which necessarily means that they expected four or more republicans to vote against her... and a greater than 90% of losing at least one republican.

Any list of likely defections had to include Collins at or near the top. So yes - it was not expected just a few days ago. Which is why her “concerned” falling in line so dramatically changed the odds to a near-certainty

They said Susan Collins is like that friend you meet for lunch who always orders the Club Sandwich, commenting that she should really order something else next time. Then, the next time the two of you meet for lunch, she orders the Club Sandwich.

Frankly, I expect nothing from her but blind compliance to her cult, eh...party.
