More than three decades after leaving the Soviet Union, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have begun to unplug from Russia's electricity grid and join the EU's network.

The two-day process began on Saturday morning, with residents told to charge their devices, stock up on food and water, and prepare as if severe weather is forecast.

After disconnecting on Saturday morning, the three countries will carry out frequency tests before integrating into the European grid via Poland on Sunday.

"We are now removing Russia's ability to use the electricity system as a tool of geopolitical blackmail," Lithuania's Energy Minister Zygimantas Vaiciunas told AFP news agency.

Large areas of the Northeastern U.S. with electricity.....I wonder if TWPC knew that when he started threatening Canada??????

I wonder if they could just shut off electricity to the White House and Capitol........or better yet, just send a massive surge/spike through just those lines...........

Musk is running wild with this DOGE thing. To sum that up, the DOGE goal is to privatize everything, taking the most consequential decisions that affect everyone away from government bureaucracies , and place that all in the hands of a few oligarchs. What could possibly go wrong?

These people have been slandering bureaucracies for decades in the same way they tried to turn "liberal" into a bad thing. We need to own the concept of bureaucracies, just as most of us have decided to own the term "liberal".

Of course, nobody wants waste or corruption, and you can find some of that everywhere. But the thing about bureaucracies is that they tend to be dependable, and they operate according to rules -- often strict, burdensome rules that can irritate people. That is all true. By connecting to the EU electrical grid, these countries are selecting a bureaucracy over an oligarch. With the EU bureaucracy, there are no sudden, capricious decisions, and nothing like the extortion you get from Putin and other dictators.

All of our bureaucracies are there for a reason. Does the FAA ever make mistakes? Of course they do, but they do thorough investigations that are very transparent. And then they require airlines and aircraft manufacturers to apply the lessons learned. That same thing happens in EVERY bureaucracy, whether we are talking about food safety, vaccines, disaster recovery , or whatever.

We have to reclaim the language. What the DOGE people call "oppressive regulations" are nothing more than consumer protections in the vast majority of cases.
