Trump Revokes Security Clearance for Letitia James, Alvin Bragg and More

Source: Newsweek

President Donald Trump said in an exclusive interview with the New York Post on Saturday that he revoked the security clearance for some former Democratic officials and current legal authorities, following his decision to do the same for former President Joe Biden earlier this week.

Trump on Saturday told the New York Post in an exclusive interview that he would revoke the clearance of eight additional Democrats, which the newspaper wrote was meant to "punish" them. Without their clearance, the officials will not be allowed to access classified information or enter federal facilities.

The list includes:

Biden's Secretary of State Antony Blinken
New York Attorney General Letitia James
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg
former national security adviser Jake Sulivan
Biden's deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco
Lawyers Andrew Weismann, Mark Zaid and Norm Eisen

Each of those listed were at some point involved with investigations into Trump.

If any city- or state-level government personnel have federal security clearances, most likely they are at the CONFIDENTIAL or SECRET level and rarely used for their jobs unless it's a terrorism case.

In addition, Trumpf could resurrect an obsolete classification category to ensure fealty:

Classification 121: Loyalty of Government Employees

This classification was established in 1947 for investigations under Executive Order (EO) 9835 of March 22, 1947. The EO required investigations of loyalty for all federal employees and all future applicants. The program established a Loyalty Review Board to make final determinations but the Bureau was assigned the task of conducting the initial investigations.

minor children, up to age 16, have protection provided by statute. Trump certainly could weaken it.

Like anything else, however, Executive Protection (EP) Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures are determined by the current administration. While Secret Service protectees may have individual preferences, they lack the authority to order DHS to do anything.

Like most things in government, resource constraints can dictate the where and how. Consider DACA as a reasonable parallel. Obama never said the law didn't apply to DACA immigrants. He said essentially that we don't have unlimited resources and that enforcement of immigration law against DACA will happen only after all the higher priorities are complete.

So, if DHS can apply immigration priorities, why wouldn't it be able to prioritize the Executive Protection mission? An interesting factoid is that while counterintuitive, Nixon is the only Former President to give up their Secret Service protection.

have changed. When John Brown was tried (and convicted) of treason for the raid on Harper's Ferry, it was treason against Virginia.

Treason carries a presumption that the charged individual has a legal duty of loyalty. Foreign spies may be tried for espionage, but a Treason charge wouldn't stick unless they were dual citizens. I don't know if a non-citizen admitted for lawful permanent residency could be charged with Treason.
