Pro-Palestine Protestors Call For 'Captain America: Brave New World' Boycott at Los Angeles Premiere

Source: Variety

Several dozen pro-Palestine protestors gathered Tuesday outside the Hollywood premiere of "Captain America: Brave New World" and called for a boycott of the film over its inclusion of the Israeli superhero Ruth Bat-Seraph, aka Sabra, played by Shira Haas.

Protestors held signs that read "Sabra has got to go," "Disney supports genocide," "Boycott ‘Captain America'" and "Pray 4 Princess Jasmine." They chanted phrases such as "Free, free, free Palestine" and "Disney, Disney you can't hide."

The inclusion of Sabra, who was a Mossad agent in the comics, sparked controversy among Palestinian fans. Marvel soon released a statement assuring that it is taking a "new approach" to the character for "Brave New World."

"While our characters and stories are inspired by the comics," Marvel said in a statement to Variety, "they are always freshly imagined for the screen and today's audience, and the filmmakers are taking a new approach with the character Sabra who was first introduced in the comics over 40 years ago."

So, I'll probably watch it. I think protesting over an Israeli character is odious and akin to the right wing protesting a black Captain America.

Because they are Trump-voters. Arab-Americans voted overwhelmingly specifically against Harris.

People lost their shit, including here!

I am a big comic book fan, especially DC, so there is something to be said for "truth" in the nature of the character. That said, there have been so many ret-cons because of the passage of time, characters have been changed to meet new issues and truths. I dislike when a character is "recreated" in a way that seems forced or the story is hurt by the change, but for the most part, many "updates" to comic characters and other fictional characters are interesting and new light and depth to the genres.

Hard to take it serious when a movie is protested against, but there are no protests against Trump's policy on Gaza. I truly do not understand it when there were protests everywhere against Biden and Harris who were trying to navigate a complex and difficult situation, but there are crickets against Trump's policies.

Don't they have anything more important to protest, like Vice President Trump's call for ethnic cleansing of Gaza? Protests like we saw when they were mad at Biden?
