Latino Republicans walk tightrope between supporting Trump and advocating for 'law-abiding' immigrants

Source: NBC News

Feb. 15, 2025, 7:00 AM EST

Latino Republican lawmakers who approve of President Donald Trump are toeing a fine line between supporting his immigration crackdown and trying to convince their immigrant constituents that they won’t get caught up in the process.

The leadership of the GOP-sponsored Congressional Hispanic Conference advocated for Trump's election by focusing on his border security policies and the deportation of violent criminals. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, selected as the conference's chairman this week, supports Trump’s immigration agenda, saying “we have to end the lawlessness.”

Gonzales has also said he supports the mass deportation of "convicted criminal aliens," but not "your 'abuelita.'" At some point, all of the CHC members in leadership positions have expressed similar stances to Gonzales.

Trump promised to deport undocumented immigrants with criminal records and carry out “the largest deportation program in American history." To fulfill that, Trump officials have said no undocumented person is off limits. Mike Madrid, a Republican strategist who opposes Trump, said no one should have been under the “false illusion” that immigrants who have not committed a crime were going to be protected. “It is absurd.”

Latino Republicans need to stop being willfully ignorant and blind to the truth – Trump’s immigration agenda is motivated by racism, bigotry, and hate – to remove black and brown speakers of Spanish and Creole from the country, whether they’ve committed crimes or not.

Our federal debt is through the roof and our budget is beyond bloated.

My mission is to make the government function again.

A key part of that is cutting wasteful spending and investing in programs that truly make a difference for the American people.

So…they…support a thrice-married serial adulterer with five kids who hate him and can’t wait for him to die?

A guy who can’t recite a single Biblical verse? And when asked to name his favorite book of the Bible, replied “Two Corinthians”?

Well, if any Latinos for Trump get rounded up and detained because they “don’t look like ‘real Americans’ “, well, that’s really going to suck for them.

if needed

According to Republicans, she's a criminal just by crossing the border illegally, but Trump has determined that all illegals are murderers and rapists. Ergo, your abuelita must be a dangerous criminal. Not sure why these supporters thought Republicans would think otherwise.

Look what the white man did to the indigenous people. They don't teach that in high school any more. They don't teach a lot of essential bits of American history. The Civil War has been forgotten in the schools lot to learn there. No AWARENESS Mostly the truth about our capitalist country. Howard Zinns book spells it all out, an easy to read history of the good old US of A. Look it up. Its called falling for the old hokey doke. America has lost its way, going to take some major shift to regain our sense of purpose, no body wants to die at the hands of the puppeteers, scary shit. Obama still can't believe he made it out alive. The fix is in, by the way Kamala won the election, they have the ability to do what they did and it will get worse. Get ready.

Three of the five new Blue Dogs are Hispanic as is the new junior senator from AZ Ruben Gallego. Gallego who voted for the Laken Riley act says "the groups" are out of touch with how Hispanic people in his state feel about things. He did an interview with Lulu Garcia-Navarro that covered the subject.

people like Gallego will finally "get the message", the hard way.

There are many like him and his family who are here in the U.S. who don't have any "generational knowledge" of what this country has done over the past 200+ years, and have never been exposed to nor taught about the experiences of this country's violent cycles, not only ethnically against certain Europeans, but more so, what those despised Europeans decided to do against any non-Europeans in order to raise their status in the great American hierarchy.

But many families DO know what happened historically in the U.S., - notably after Reconstruction (which is hardly taught) -

This "outrage" of elected "coloreds" (a/k/a n****rs) eventually prompted "Jim Crow" after the conclusion of the Civil War.

The election of Barack Obama as President and later election of Kamala Harris as VP have caused similar head-explosions akin to what happened during Reconstruction with the election of black members of Congress. And so once again, we see the U.S. now going through yet another cycle of the mass implementation of the latest version of "Jim Crow", in this case going back to de jure implementation to add to the de facto.
