Apple shareholders reject proposal to scrap company's diversity programs
Source: Associated Press
Apple shareholders rebuffed an attempt to pressure the technology trendsetter into joining President Donald Trumps push to scrub corporate programs designed to diversify its workforce.
The proposal drafted by the National Center for Public Policy Research a self-described conservative think tank urged Apple to follow a litany of high-profile companies that have retreated from diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives currently in the Trump administrations crosshairs.
After a brief presentation about the anti-DEI proposal, Apple announced shareholders had rejected it without disclosing the vote tally. The preliminary results will be outlined in a regulatory later Tuesday.
The shareholder vote came a month after the same group presented a similar proposal during Costcos annual meeting, only to have it overwhelmingly rejected. A similar outcome is expected during Apples annual meeting despite the vocal objections of critics.

(387 posts)Tim Cook, the CEO of tech giant Apple who has been dubbed "the most powerful gay man in America," has personally donated one million dollars to President-elect Donald J. Trump's inaugural committee, Axios reports.
Sources told the publication that Cook "believes the inauguration is a great American tradition, and is donating to the inauguration in the spirit of unity." It is a personal contribution from Cook, and Apple is not expected to give any money.

(8,302 posts)Iphones over Androids. There is a bit of truth to it. This is why diversity matters, not just because it is the right thing, but it is good to understand your customer base. Insisting that Apple end its diversity programs, when there is some truth to the fact that a lot of black people and younger people prefer iPhones over other phones is stupid. Younger folks in general do not approve of this " Anti DEI" nonsense.
Target is seeing a decline in visitors ever since they dropped their DEI initiatives. Apple does not want to FAFO.
