Moms for Liberty, Education Department launch program to report teachers who promote diversity

Source: Salon

The Department of Education is teaming up with the far-right activist group Moms for Liberty, launching a portal Thursday where parents can submit tips to the department to investigate as part of the crusade to end diversity and inclusion efforts in schools.

In a press release, the department announced it was launching the portal so that anyone can “submit reports of discrimination based on race or sex in publicly-funded K-12 schools,” which the department would then use as a guide “to identify potential areas for investigation.”

The press release included a statement from Tiffany Justice, a co-founder of Moms for Liberty and Heritage Foundation employee. Justice claimed that “parents have been begging schools to focus on teaching their kids practical skills like reading, writing, and math, instead of pushing critical theory, rogue sex education and divisive ideologies — but their concerns have been brushed off, mocked, or shut down entirely.”

Justice, who heads an organization whose members have been accused of waging harassment campaigns and repeatedly rebuked in school board elections, went on to say: “This webpage demonstrates that President Trump’s Department of Education is putting power back in the hands of parents.”

Moms for Liberty are all about their propaganda of white supremacy and anti-LGBTQ+ conspiracies. Many schools already have a shortage of teachers. Demonizing the teaching profession and setting up Stasi-like school snitches will not help. Why would young people want to become teachers for low pay, often poor working conditions, and constant harassment by parents and politicians! I suppose Musk-generated AI will replace teachers in the future.

The Mt. Lebanon School District has agreed to pay $350,000 in legal fees to end a lawsuit that accused a teacher of violating parents’ constitutional rights when she gave a lesson on transgender identity to first-grade students.

A federal judge in September ruled in favor of three mothers in the district who sued two years ago alleging that their rights to parent their children were violated by the teacher. In her opinion, Senior U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti awarded the three women nominal damages of $15.

Williams told her first-grade class that “when children are born, parents make a guess whether they’re a boy or a girl. Sometimes parents are wrong,” according to testimony.
One child, who was upset, raised his hand and said: “’But I’m a boy. I don’t want to be a girl.’”
“Williams responded, ‘Yes you are. Talk with your parents about that.’”

Education Dept Launches Anti-Diversity Snitch Line
February 27, 2025 Christianists, Republicans

Rolling Stone reports:

Donald Trump’s Department of Education has launched a new portal for Americans to rat out the diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at their local public schools.

The portal, called EndDEI.ed.gov, debuted with a press release that featured no government authorities, but rather a quote from a co-founder of the reactionary group Moms for Liberty, which is infamous for its anti-LGBTQ+ activism and links to right-wing militant groups like the Proud Boys.

Tiffany Justice, of Moms for Liberty, touted the launch of the portal, highlighting it as an opportunity for parents to push back against “critical [race] theory, rogue sex education, and divisive ideologies.” She added: “Now is the time that you share the receipts of the betrayal that has happened in our public schools.”

It would be hard to distinguish sincere from frivolous complaints, especially if the complaints were, say, machine generated to cover every single school in the United States. I wonder how hard that would be to do. The portal seems simple enough. enddei.ed.gov

Generally speaking, post-probationary teachers cannot be fired without cause EXCEPT in cases of reduction in force.

State laws determine the instances where teachers are fired or disciplined. It is in their administrative law statutes. School districts don't make up rules on when and who to fire.

A job is considered a property right in public employment. That includes teaching.

States like Florida have put in schemes like year-to-year contracts, but my comment still holds true.

I know what I am talking about. I have been a teacher in public schools in a state that is so-called "right to work," which impacts school districts somewhat, but those who choose not to belong to a union still have recourse. I KNOW the process. That doesn't mean administrators don't have a boatload of tools to try and force teachers out or the fact that administrative law isn't worth the paper it is written on and many teachers have to resort to civil courts to try and get reinstated to their jobs.

That's what a lot of the maga teachers do already, and they right now feel free to completely humiliate kids. And with all the prayer and Christian crap that's infiltrating our educational institutions, the first kid who refused to pray the prayer coming over the intercom or from the teacher, will be held up for ridicule and "counseled." Be s/he Jewish, Sikh, Islamic, Hindu, Pagan, or any other non-Jesus religion.

My sister can't wait to retire from teaching. Not only is getting harder on her to just do the job... especially all the administration stuff she's responsible for because she's the longest lasting teacher at this little Catholic school.. but she worries when the Benedict-loving conservatives are going to start in on them. And, with the way the church has to pay out millions for all the damage done to kids, it's a perpetual rumor and worry for the last decade that they're going to close down her school. It's in the Barrio of KcK, down the block from KU Med Center. It's become a constant worry for her of late...

and see kids as dollar signs. They poured money into the Moms faux grassroots group. If they implant their corporate charter schools in states, they make money, control curriculum content and indoctrinate students to their worldview. By the by,Tiffany Justice wanted to be tRump's Sec of Education.
