Norway Fuel Giant Refuses to Fill U.S. Submarines

A petrol giant in Norway has announced a ban on fuel sales to all US forces following Donald Trump's treatment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, it has been reported.

Norwegian firm Haltbakk Bunkers announced it will stop providing fuel to all American forces in Norway as it declared "No fuel to Americans!". The firm posted on social media to declare its support for Zelensky as it dealt a hammer blow to US President Trump following the heated spat televised from the Oval Office.

Even if they are nukes, they may have diesel backups. I had a boss who was in the Navy, stationed on a sub.

so they are difficult to maneuver, especially at slow docking speeds.

I suspect U.S. Navy tugboats use the fuel as they assist the nuke boats in and out of port. And we may have one or more USCG cutters to patrol the surrounding waters, since the Russian sub base in Murmansk isn't far away.

There may be barracks with a mess hall using fuels.

In case the nukes have a problem which is pretty rare. Might still be the case. As Submariner mentioned above, we needed diesel tugs to berth and unberth. Other than that, the US submarine force has been all nuclear for decades thanks to Admiral Rickover. With a few minor exceptions. The last diesel boat, USS Dolphin, was decommissioned in 2007 I think. It was a research vessel. This will have an impact on the surface fleet though. Arleigh Burke destroyers, unlike the nuclear powered Carriers they protect, run on gas turbines and burn a lot of bunker fuel.

Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik stated that the country continues to provide the US military fleet with full support and supplies. The official's remarks came in response to the refusal of the Norwegian company Haltbakk Bunkers to refuel American warships, according to the Norwegian Ministry of Defense's Twitter (X) account.

In the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, during the night before March 2, a statement by Sandvik regarding reports about naval support was released.

"We have seen reports raising concerns about support for US Navy vessels in Norway," the head of the Ministry of Defense said.

He noted that this is not in line with the Norwegian government’s policy.
