Trudeau not willing to lift Canada’s retaliatory tariffs if Trump leaves some tariffs on Canada

By ROB GILLIES
Updated 2:09 PM EST, March 5, 2025

TORONTO (AP) — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is unwilling to lift Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on the United States if President Donald Trump leaves any U.S. tariffs on Canada, a senior government official told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The official confirmed Trudeau’s stance on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. The official said Trump and Trudeau spoke by phone around midday. ... Other Canadian officials publicly echoed Trudeau’s position.

“We’re not interested in meeting in the middle and having some reduced tariff. Canada wants the tariffs removed,” Canadian Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Trump launched a new trade war Tuesday by imposing tariffs against Washington’s three biggest trading partners, drawing immediate retaliation from Mexico, Canada and China and sending financial markets into a tailspin. Trump put 25% taxes, or tariffs, on Mexican and Canadian imports, though he limited the levy to 10% on Canadian energy.

his cult will think he's big and tough and powerful.

But the back and forth of tariffs on, tariffs off is insane. And the only people making money are the super rich who can play the stock market and all the while our little 401ks are losing our retirement money.

Krasnov is doing the same back and forth with firing& re-hiring

I think Canada should keep the tariffs and not play this game. Unfortunately Krasnov could pull the tariffs and then blame Canada, he has to have someone to blame.

Threaten tariffs, to try to scare Canada and Mexico, then meet them halfway when they retaliate. But it takes two to play that game, and Canada and Mexico will not play Don's little charade. C &M retaliated, and they will not lift their tariffs. So now Felon Don is backed into a corner of his own making. He thought he could bully C & M, but stupid Don was wrong.. And he isn't smart enough to find a way out, so he will bluster and bully some more, but now the world knows he is a paper tiger..

His idea was to bully C & M, then use the same crap on UK and the Euro Union, but they, have united against Trump and they see Trump as an ally of Putin, so they will not believe a word Trump says. The US is now their enemy. Huge whoops..

Now Wall Street and the automakers are on Don's ass, and he would would be king can't back down without looking weak. er..

But if that would happen (although it won't), it would be funny since Trudeau stepped down from the Liberal Party's leadership...

Then Canada *after* becoming the 51st state (again, not happening), he could run for POTUS as the leader of the Dems... lol

In Canada, it's almost like the longest a political party can hope to govern (historically speaking).

Admittedly, he has done many good things, but like everyone, he's not 100% perfect.

He made a few mistakes. Generally not dramatic ones, but the medias jumped on them.

So it's like he knew his "time" was up, and his Cabinet kind of insisted it's time to go for a new leadership (based on their own prospects of getting elected again or rejected by their respective county's voters).

So Canada's Liberal Party will choose a new leader who will automatically become the new Prime Minister (a bit like an "acting" PM if you will) until that new PM will ask the Governor General - an old tradition kept from the past era of the British Dominion of Canada - to dissolve the Parliament and call a general election (which will last like only five weeks or so).

When someone punches, thinking they are punching down, what is needed
is that the person being punched - needs to punch back. And keep punching until there is no chance
another punch can be returned. It is not about beating someone to death, it is about rendering them
harmeless.

You can let up when they learn to stop punching when no one is harming them

First of all, the United States is unrepresented - it's just Russia. But it's wearing a psycho cannibal America-suit. So he's gotta pretend on some level.

He's gotta represent Canada, because that's his job.

But he's also gotta think about protecting the whole of Western civilization against the America-suit-wearing serial killer psycho piece of shit he's talking to.
