Poll: Michigan Gov. Snyder’s Popularity Tanks After Right-To-Work Bill

The approval rating of Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) is in the gutter, according to a poll released Tuesday, the strongest evidence yet of the political perils associated with the right-to-work legislation he signed into law last week.
According to the latest automated survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, only 38 percent of Michigan voters approve of the job Snyder is doing, compared with 56 percent who disapprove. In PPP's previous survey of Michigan in November, Snyder's approval rating was 10 points above water: 47 percent of voters approved of his performance as governor, while 37 percent disapproved.
The right-to-work bill, signed by Snyder amid mass protests, appears to have changed the political climate in the Great Lake State. Fifty-one percent of Michigan voters oppose the bill, which made Michigan the country's 24th right-to-work state, while 41 percent support the legislation. Moreover, Snyder trails every Democrat in hypothetical matchups of the 2014 gubernatorial election.

(662 posts)He is a disgusting, failed governor. And clear evidence that Repugs do not know how to lead in a democracy. Snyder wants to rule, give orders and not be bothered with such inconvenience as to have to listen to constituency. 2014 is coming, I sure hope the Ds are preparing NOw. It is exhausting task, but the KOCHROACHES HAVE enuf money to buy FRESH and replace turn over. We jus thave to keep on going.

(18,124 posts)sitting in his office laughing at these numbers. He doesn't care. With the bills he helped facilitate he is set for life, financially. That's all these political clowns worry about. Not numbers related to popularity, just how much money in the bank after either I'm forced out by recall, by vote or years in office. He's LOL with feet up on desk, chuckling at us 'little people'. Well Michiganians who voted this clown in, you got what you wanted and laws the implemented by this Koch brothers bought clown and his cronies ARE going to hurt you too, dummies!

(15,545 posts)when he ran for office. These sorts of guys are supreme narcissists and they could give a rat's ass about the populace.
I know way too many decent, highly educated/intelligent Democrats who voted for him. I'm proud to say I didn't. I wasn't fooled by his "I'm just a quiet nerd businessman" line. I wish I could name a decent Republican any more. Years ago there used to be decent Republicans, but now? If there's an "R" after their name, they'll never get my vote.

(332 posts)The aim wasn't to stay popular with voters anyway.
His mission is accomplished. From here to a cushy think-tank sinecure after his one term as governor is the rest of his trajectory. I'm sure he couldn't be happier.

(53,661 posts)The cry of some saying they'll be sorry when they lose their public service jobs ring hollow when the reality of their front men becomes apparent. We get outraged at their abuse of their power while in office, but they only answer to us nominally. We should not be surprised or outraged - they are fascists.
Their bosses call the shots and aren't hiding it. Nor ar their bosses. The Koches used to hide behind these guys, now they are open for business and buying public assets for nothing.
A brainwashed generation let this happen. Something needs to be done to educate the 41% that still approves of his work - probably first in line to make money off of privatization schemes. Their loyalty is to their wallets.

Snyder's popularity plummets
Last week he threw all that out the window.
We now find Snyder as one of the most unpopular Governors in the country. Only 38% of voters approve of him to 56% who disapprove. There are only 2 other sitting Governors we've polled on who have a worse net approval rating than Snyder's -18. He's dropped a net 28 points from our last poll on him, the weekend before the election, when he was at a +10 spread (47/37).
There's not much doubt that it's the right to work law and his embrace of other actions by the Republican legislature that are driving this precipitous drop in Snyder's popularity. Only 41% of voters in the state support the right to work legislation, while 51% are opposed to it. If voters got to decide the issue directly only 40% of them say they would vote to keep the law enacted, while 49% would vote to overturn it. This comes on the heels of voters overturning Snyder's signature emergency managers law last month. The simple reality is that Michigan voters like unions- 52% have a favorable opinion of them to only 33% with a negative one.

(34,414 posts)tune. I'm just waiting to see what lame justification he's going to give when he signs the concealed carry in day care center legislation because you just know he will.
Miserable piece of shit. I don't think I've ever despised a politician as much as I despise Snyder, because he's a liar, a dangerous liar. He ran all moderate and that bullshit, yet has followed ALEC's and the teabagger playbook since Day 1. And that shitty, nasally, weenie voice of his gives me the fucking creeps.
Sorry about the language. I just can't even think of this miserable POS without it being obscenity-laced...
