Canadian citizen dies while in U.S. ICE custody in Florida
Source: Global News
A Canadian citizen has died while in custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Florida and awaiting removal from the United States, the agency says.
The Canadian, identified as 49-year-old Johnny Noviello, was found unresponsive Monday at the Federal Detention Center in Miami and was attended to by medical staff, but was pronounced dead the same day, ICE said in a statement Wednesday.
The cause of death remains under investigation.

Great. Now ICE is killing Canadians.
On edit, he was arrested after serving time for a drug charge, but he'd been in ICE custody for a month. Being an actual criminal, you would think he would have been deported instantly. How long did it take before they sent all those "gang" members to the prison in El Salvador?

(2,860 posts)If this country can somehow manage a soft landing from our fascist state, it will take at least two generations for anyone to trust us. We elected a fascist twice, the rule of law no longer applies, masked people kidnapping in broad daylight.
How do we come back?

(9,261 posts)Probably the starting place to investigate. There have been too many reports of people being held by ICE (or whoever the cos players are) not getting adequate (or any) water. Dehydration kills and it can do it really fast in heat.

(58,374 posts)And not much after that. I can totally see how dehydration could kill someone under those conditions.

Alejandro has been concerned about conditions at the detention center where his father is held. He said that when he saw him at the facility Tuesday, his father was wearing the same clothes as when he was arrested, that he had not been able to wash his face or shower, that he had blood on his shirt and that his eyes were burning. Alejandro said his father told him he is being held in a cage with at least 70 other people, with one toilet and no privacy, and that he has received water maybe once a day and very, very little food.

(2,860 posts)We are now the international criminals of the world. I wonder if food and water was denied or some other medieval torture. ICE needs to be abolished and should send an apology to the world.

(43,536 posts)Drug charges are not a death sentence, and he served his time. Just because it's a Canadian this time doesn't mean it couldn't be another nationality next.
I agree with the poster upthread. Our reputation is in the ditch for the next century, if we last this long.
