Republican Says 'Most' of Iran's Uranium is Still There

Source: Newsweek

Published Jun 27, 2025 at 4:48 PM EDT | Updated Jun 27, 2025 at 4:51 PM EDT

Republican Representative Michael McCaul of Texas told CNN on Friday that "most" of Iran's enriched uranium is intact after U.S. airstrikes hit the Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz nuclear sites.

Why It Matters

McCaul's comments came after lawmakers were given classified briefings on the strikes, which were carried out last weekend and which President Donald Trump said "completely and totally obliterated" Iran's nuclear facilities.

The full extent of the damage remains unknown and CNN, The New York Times and other media outlets reported that a preliminary assessment from the Defense Intelligence Agency said the strikes did not destroy the key components of Iran's nuclear infrastructure.

The White House has publicly confirmed the existence of the assessment, though it disputes media reports about the early intelligence findings and is working on finding the source of the media leak. Israeli intelligence reports have also contradicted the initial U.S. assessment, estimating that more "significant" damage was done by the bombing.

Oh, and PS the leak is coming from outside the house. But, they’ll use it to crucify Tulski, anyway.

Hundreds of millions of dollars thrown away for a sound bite and a pathetic shambling squeaking lap around the emperor-has-no-clothes.

If it's all destroyed it kills a lot of the motivation for escalating conflict. Huge problem.

Expect AIPAC-aligned reps, defense contractors, mercenary groups, etc. to push strongly for an active enrichment narrative.

No statistics, so we’re blind to it.

If the enrichment operation was destroyed that motivation disappears.

If the strike was successful it's a huge problem for the military industrial complex. There's going to be a full court press to push the idea that it failed. Think yellow cake and kicking over baby incubators.
