Ten people have been charged with attempted murder after allegedly ambushing US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) agents in Texas on 4 July.

Federal prosecutors said attackers drew the agents out of an Ice detention center in Alvarado, Texas, with fireworks and by vandalizing vehicles. They allegedly shot a police officer in the neck and unloaded between 20 and 30 rounds on immigration agents, and were later apprehended by local law enforcement near the scene.

14. Sounds like an ad hoc group intending to disrupt and vandalize joined by a couple of gun nut thugs.

The lesson: Don't invite Texas gun nuts to your vandalism party unless you want to see people shot.

I am not excusing the vandalism. Vandalism is a form of violence that does more harm than good. However, the report seems to indicate evidence for only two guns present (casings in the two locations the shots were believed to have been fired from). I'm guessing there were only two acting with an intent to injure or kill.

If this was a group of people who connected online, all of them were reckless idiots. The two shooters may, or may not have been MAGA folk seeking to ensure the situation escalated to serious violence. I imagine we will never know.
