After news that Vice President JD Vance had a family visit planned to Disneyland, hundreds of people turned out to protest his trip to the Happiest Place on Earth while Trump administrations immigration policies result in ICE raids across Los Angeles.
No family vacation while we deal with family separation, read one protester sign, adorned with Vances face.
Protesters gathered outside the nearby Grand Californian Hotel where the Vice President and his family were staying, waving flags and chanting. I would tell [Vance] to go home, one protester told Fox 11. Get the hell out of here. We don't want him here."
But the following day Vance, his wife, Usha, and their two kids were spotted strolling through the California parks Bayou Country section. Other park goers complained that regular guests were experiencing delays and long lines because of the additional security and rides being shut down for the Vance family.

Yeah, his kids deserve an uninterrupted day at the park. Fuck that.

(340 posts)This is why they have family discussions before running for office. Because they know life will be different. You want a normal life, get a normal job. You want a private life, don't run for public office. He could have sent his wife and "her kids" to the park without him, nobody would have a problem with that.

(3,243 posts). . . The families and children of people snatched off the street do to deserve their treatment?
Maybe if he got a small taste of what others are going through . . . But I doubt that will affect him because he is evil to the core.

(12,453 posts)His children did nothing
neither did a lot of the kids hes deporting
if not the kids then the kids parents, leaving them with a broken family.
They didnt deserve that action either.
These times are not normal.

The only peace fascists should find is within their homes, and even then, protestors should occupy the public sidewalks outside.

(9,479 posts)than the kids whose parents are being dragged away and sent off to god knows where. He doesnt care and his boss Peter Thiel would not care if they died. If he cares about his family and the public backlash to his agenda then it is easy. Just be a decent human being. All he has to say is this treatment of immigrants needs to stop
Now!
Fuck him! This country would be a much better place if people like him, and related to him, would be uncomfortable to show their face in public rather than striving to be in the publics face. There is a difference.
The truth is that these stunts are really all about him and his family are just props.

(3,033 posts)He picked the park in California very near to LA. Why would he do that if he didnt want to get a rise out of the people who live there? It was a purposeful choice. I can only assume he wanted that reaction. Ask yourself why.

(15,316 posts)that we have lost our republic to a fascist government - and yes, I do know the definition of fascism. Oligarchs are robbing the treasury, corporations are being deregulated right and left, and the Bannon/Miller Nazi faction of the party are busy creating a secret police complete with camps so people can be brought to heel through fear.
Just like Hitler back in the 30s.
The feelings of Vance's kids and wife kind of have to take a back seat to that giant Nazi elephant in America's living room.

I'm pretty sure there were more than "hundreds" there, a sizable amount, and the park closing the rides the next day?

(17,219 posts)They could take the family to Cedar Point. I guess that would be too "hillbillyish" for him now that he's reached the big time.

(8,475 posts)Seriously, I assume his kids have lived in Ohio most if not all of their lives. They're pretty young so I don't think they'd view going back to Ohio as a great vacation. I'm sure the kids would be much more excited to visit Disneyland.

(17,219 posts)Mine did. I was born and raised in Cleveland and both my parents were born and raised in Cleveland. My two children were born there too though they weren't raised there due to a job transfer. My siblings still live there.
People from NE Ohio always considered southern Ohio to be where the rednecks lived, not counting the areas around OSU and OU.

(17,219 posts)I really don't know or care where they lived in Ohio, but I did read Vance's book when it first came out. I don't remember all the details but I think he was one of those hillbillies (his term) whose family came from W. Va. and moved to southern Ohio. Cedar Point is about as far as you can get from southern Ohio. From Cleveland it's only about an hour and a half give or take, depending on where you live. So it was a day trip for us.

(21,783 posts)It shows them on the public sidewalk on Harbor blvd., outside the Disney resort property.
Thats a very visible location, as all guests staying at the many hotels on Harbor would see them.
The report says the protestors intended to March to the Grand Californian, but to do that, they would have to enter Disney property, go through at least one security checkpoint, and then make their way to the GC. If they did, and exhibited signs or chanted, they would immediately be escorted off the property- Disney does not mess around with people disrupting the park experience- Ive witnessed twice Trump supporters (likely drunk, since the parks now serve alcohol )being escorted off the property wearing MAGA swag and screaming pro-Trump nonsense.
My guess is the protestors didnt go to the GC.

(21,783 posts)The city council voted to allow Disney to take over ownership and maintenance of that and a couple of other roads just a few months ago as part of their approval for expansion of the resort.
Disney Drive is almost entirely surrounded by Disney property. (Once you cross Harbor, it is definitely completely surrounded by Disney properties.

(164,522 posts)it was during the week when Pope John Paul II was there so that day of the session (I think a Wednesday) was cancelled because the federal offices were also closed, along with many streets. I was trying to decide whether to go down to Anaheim to see Disneyland or go to one of the studios - either Paramount or Universal. I ended up going to Universal. Had no idea what that area looked like at this point outside of the videos and it looks to be more "urbanized". About 50 years ago, a few years after they opened, I did go to (swampy) Disney World and even with all the recent expansions there since then, that park in metro Orlando, seemed to be easier for LEO to "secure" as "private property".

It is a fuck you to all the families he is destroying right now. Look at me and my kids enjoying the happiest place on earth, while you are packed into a concentration camp, then shipped out of the country for the heinous crime of picking my food and scrubbing my toilet.
