At least three police officers were killed in an explosion at a County Sheriff's Department training facility in East Los Angeles, officials say.

The explosion occurred at the Biscailuz Center Academy Training on Friday morning at around 07:30 local time (15:30 BST), according to first responders.

An open space that they can control would be fine, if they were waiting for an explosives specialist to make it safe (and maybe examine for evidence). But it sounds like non-experts were told to do something with it.

Following Friday's fatal explosion at the Biscailuz Training Center, renewed attention is being paid to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's history of safety incidents at its facilities.
