Indian rape victim's condition deteriorating: Singapore hospital

Fri Dec 28, 2012 10:40am EST

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - The condition of the Indian medical student, whose gang rape in New Delhi triggered nationwide protests, has deteriorated and there are signs her vital organs have failed, the Singapore hospital treating her said on Friday.

"As of 9 p.m. Singapore time on Dec. 28 (10.00 a.m. EST), the patient's condition has taken a turn for the worse. Her vital signs are deteriorating with signs of severe organ failure," Mount Elizabeth Hospital Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Loh said in a statement.

"Her family members have been informed that her condition has deteriorated and they are currently by her side to encourage and comfort her," he said.

The 23-year-old woman, who was severely beaten, raped for almost an hour and thrown out of a moving bus on December 16, was airlifted to Singapore on December 26 for specialist treatment.

i hope the bastards who did this to her rot in hell. and i am so glad this thread has yet to be infiltrated by rape apologists who claim false accusations of rape are more of problem than actual rapes. violence against women is rampant...around the planet.

It's hard to imagine how she didn't die at the time when they brutally yanked her intestines out with a metal rod.

I can't even pretend to hold the tears back.

for those who perpetrated this heinous act, and those who stood by and did nothing, and for those who dismiss it, or condone it, I wish absolutely EVERYTHING they deserve.

What her poor body has been through, it likely cannot survive it, and I'm not sure what quality of life she would have if it did.

What a tragedy. May those who attacked her suffer to the fullest amount possible.

it should be considered. Public group rape without intervention of law enforcement or other civilians underscores how low things have sunk, IMO.

seamstresses, dishwashers, courtesans, nannies, gardeners, housekeeping personnel, launderers ... There really is an awful lot of misogyny in South Asia, seems to me.

Riding buses in India isn't safe for women.

I'd like to know about the fucking bus driver now. "Moving vehicle"?

From the same wiki link:

On 21 December 2012, the Delhi High Court reprimanded the Delhi police for being "evasive" in a probe status report providing details of officers on patrol duty in the area covered by the bus route. A further court hearing on this matter is scheduled for 9 January 2013.[35] The following day, the Delhi Police initiated action against three Hauz Khas police station personnel for alleged inaction on an alleged robbery of the bus on which the gang rape and assault occurred. Just before the gang rape, the accused had robbed a carpenter, Ramadhar, after picking him up in their area.[4] On 24 December 2012, two Assistant Commissioners of Police were suspended for failing to prevent the gang rape incident.[3
