What does this even mean?

“A significant number of people who currently are on SNAP through unemployment will now be climbing a ladder of opportunity, which [means] they’ll be able to have more resources to buy more food. So our grocers are going to do well with this.”

People who are unemployed will suddenly be able to find jobs when their benefits require it? Because of course they are simply choosing to be unemployed?

Is that what he’s saying? That employment opportunities abound, and anyone who wants to can go and get a good job?

Yeah, tell that to the people about to lose their jobs at the grocery store. Oh, and anyone who has ever been arrested. And the single parent with nobody to watch the kids while they are at work. And anyone with physical or mental disabilities.

Because companies are just begging to hire them.

What a disgrace.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
