US government probes Duke University in latest federal funding threat
Source: Reuters
President Donald Trump's administration has initiated a probe into Duke University and the Duke Law Journal over allegations of race-related discrimination, making it the latest American university to face the threat of cuts to federal funding.
The government said on Monday it will probe whether the Duke Law Journal's selection of its editors gives preferences to candidates from minority communities.
"This investigation is based on recent reporting alleging that Duke University discriminates on the bases of race, color, and/or national origin by using these factors to select law journal members," the Education Department said in a statement.
U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sent a letter to the university's leadership alleging what the government called "the use of race preferences in Duke's hiring, admissions, and scholarship decisions."

This is just a shakedown, as others say.

(69,648 posts)It's a very broad brush they're using in their idiotic and internally inconsistent letter.
The text of the letter to the School of Medicine begins with:

(8,710 posts)I just looked it up, there were two letters one about how law review members are chosen, and a second letter (the one you mentioned) regarding the medical school.

(69,648 posts)The School of Medicine letter goes on to say that Duke can't be trusted to review their own policies... then demands that Duke set up a committee to review their own policies.
It's like TrumpCo is not even trying anymore.
