Judge rubbishes Trump's 'unlawful' executive orders in twofold setback over refugee admissions, certifies class

The Trump administration suffered a double whammy in a Seattle-based federal court on Wednesday in one of the longest-running lawsuits challenging the federal government's immigration policies.
First, the plaintiffs – led by a Congolese refugee identified only through the pseudonym Pacito – secured class certification, successfully reconfiguring their original lawsuit as a class action in the aftermath of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling that greatly narrowed down the pathways to nationwide, or universal, injunctions.
Second, the U.S. Department of Justice lost its bid to have the lawsuit dismissed for failure to state a claim and lack of jurisdiction.
The one-two punch of rulings sets up the likelihood the plaintiffs will, in the near future, obtain a second injunction barring the Trump administration from dismantling the country's refugee resettlement system and defunding the foremost program sustaining that system.
