Brawls, racism and cocaine: Lawsuit reveals life inside Tesla plant where Musk was directly involved with HR decisions

Source: The Independent

Friday 08 August 2025 17:27 EDT

Working conditions at Tesla’s manufacturing plant in Fremont, California, have allegedly gone from bad to worse, with sexual assaults aboard company shuttle buses, drug and alcohol use onsite, all-out brawls breaking out between employees and “prevalent” bigotry – including widespread use of the N-word, a bombshell lawsuit reveals.

In a 159-page federal lawsuit filed Thursday and obtained first by The Independent, Ozell Murray, a former Fresno police officer in charge of security at the 22,000-person factory, claims he and his team “routinely” seized cocaine and fentanyl onsite, confiscated guns discovered in the building, investigated “acts of sexual deviance” on Tesla grounds, and, at regular intervals, “pulled employees off the manufacturing line and sent them home for being alcohol-intoxicated and high on drugs.”

Those who reported the issues were fired over bogus charges or forced to resign, according to Murray’s complaint, to which several of his ex-colleagues signed on as co-defendants.

“Healthy profits have always been more important to the Company than a healthy working environment,” the complaint alleges. “For Tesla, more bodies on the manufacturing line meant more vehicles flying out the factory door – no matter how unclean the hands were that were assembling those cars.”

Tesla is run by a Republican. BoRaGard's post was observing that the "overlord," that would be Musk, has a workplace that reflects himself: a bigot, a drug abuser and a bully.

The problem is the owner and management of Tesla. It's probably why their cars have so many problems.

Consider your posts about Democrats carefully, newbie. Your post is close to bashing Democrats.

Democrats are human. Humans are subject to making stupid choices. It is very likely that there were some workers in a large enough pool that voted Democrat but also made stupid decisions regarding things like drinking or perhaps were functioning alcoholics. Given that many on the left liked Teslas before Eloon’s idiocy was exposed on the world stage because they liked the idea of an EV it would be unsurprising to find someone who votes left working there. People no matter their political beliefs are not pure as the driven snow.

“Healthy profits have always been more important to the Company this country than a healthy working environment,” the complaint alleges.

Hey, it is not just at this plant. It is nationwide.

It is not like body panels blowing off on the highway, or self driving mode causing deadly crashes.

The place is run by a 'Super Genius' after all....

I worked automotive glass for Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company in the 90s. The stories the "old timers" used to tell about extended beer brakes and building rooms surrounded by pallets. Older rooms in the plant had beer cans in the stair cases.

I worked at the Lathrop, CA plant but also was in N. Ohio in some of those facilities.

Everyone brags about strong heavy vehicles, but in real life yields were low and waste was plenty - still the company was making money hand over fist before the Japanese took over with their Kaizen methodology.

I've been NUMMI Facility as we supplied glass for the Toyota, Prizms and Corollas that were being built before the facility was a transferred to Tesla. I can imagine the riff raff going on there cause I knew a few Stockton goofballs that I knew were the shady drug party type who worked there.

Also, the pay is low in the 20's which is low considering it's the Bay Area. Go Figure.

Things improved a lot with the Toyota Gm partnership because Toyota knew it's business and how to communicate with employees. Under Musk it was bound to be a shithole. Low wages and piss poor management is a recipe for disaster. Low wage workers just don't give a shit about there job and I don't blame them.

I hadn't heard anything about this, but I'm not entirely surprised given Musk's track record as a businessman.
