Kristi Noem Has Been Living Rent-Free on Military Base 'For Her Own Safety,' WaPo Reports

Department of Homeland Security honcho Kristi Noem has been living rent-free on a Washington-area military base “for her own safety,” The Washington Post reported Friday.

Noem relocated to the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, located just off the Anacostia Freeway, after photos of the area near the DHS chief’s home in D.C.’s Navy Yard neighborhood were published by the Daily Mail, DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told the Post.

Noem was “so horribly doxxed and targeted that she is no longer able to safely live in her own apartment,” McLaughlin told the paper. Noem’s new digs on the Potomac River are fit for royalty — or at least a top navy admiral, which the housing is normally reserved for.

The revelation has riled some Democratic lawmakers, including Sen. Chris Murphy (CT), who serves on the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on homeland security. Murphy told the Post that the building is “not a vanity residence” and accused Noem of “essentially taking that property from the military.”
