'Not sustainable': DC restaurant reservations plummet after Trump's police takeover

Source: Raw Story

August 17, 2025 4:01PM ET

Restaurant and bar owners across the Washington, D.C. area reported a significant drop in revenue after President Donald Trump federalized the local police force and deployed military troops.

On Sunday, a WUSA analysis of data from OpenTable found that restaurant reservations had dropped by more than 25%.

Trump first announced his plan to crack down on crime in D.C. on Monday. Reservations that day fell by 16% compared to 2024. By Wednesday, reservations were 31% below 2024 levels.

Before the president federalized D.C. law enforcement, the area had enjoyed 11 consecutive months of improvements in reservations.

And his fucktator activities are the worst of it. He’s really destroying the last of his base’s approval. They have no reason at all to see this activity as a plus. He just looks like he’s flailing as a distraction from Epstein.

Are patrons reluctant to go into the city for dinner? Are they afraid they'll run into MAGA goons? Is a labor shortage affecting restaurant service?

to avoid all the political rancor. Problem is, this is "for real" and no longer "just hyperbolic politics stuff". So it's possible that this nightmare is slowly beginning to seep into the American psyche.

There are also A LOT of international tourists who come here, particularly to places like D.C. or NYC, but that is obviously starting to dwindle now with fascism setting in.

I'd like to see more granular data. August in DC is hot and muggy. Is there normally a slump in August or do the tourists usually come anyway? I don't know.

Trump and Vance keep threatening the Smithsonian and other museums. That's normally a big draw.

Are conventions being cancelled?

International tourists aren't coming to the US.

THAT has been TACO's plan all along. Just to rough up a few Latinos believed to be "UNDOCUMENTED".

This police action is having an effect not only in D.C., but in big cities in states where Democratic Party Mayors and Governors reside. Business and tourism will suffer for it. Shit likes this trickles downwards.
