Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Announce Their Engagement
Source: New York Times
The pop star Taylor Swift and the football player Travis Kelce are engaged.
Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married, the couple captioned a joint post on Instagram announcing the news on Tuesday, adding a dynamite emoji and a snippet of Ms. Swifts song So High School.
In the first photo, Mr. Kelce is shown on bended knee below Ms. Swift, who is wearing a striped dress and standing under an elaborate floral arch. A later photo shows Ms. Swift sporting a large ring.
The news came just a few weeks after Ms. Swift appeared on Mr. Kelces New Heights podcast, which he hosts with his brother, Jason, to reveal details about her forthcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, which will be released in October. In the friendly setting of a podcast hosted by her boyfriend and his brother, she gave one of her most in-depth interviews in years.

(7,066 posts)Either I'm older than I thought and out of touch to an absurd level, or David Brinkley would never waste his time with what passes as for-profit news these days (actually, I think it's both).
Malarkey, I'm not old. We go out to the motion picture show and make monkey-shines at least once a month!

(7,066 posts)I bailed on Top 40 back in the mid-80s and have been rewinding backwards ever since (just hit my Gershwin/Goodman phase this year). If it came out in the past 40 years and isnt an electronic gadget or a tool for the garage, theres a good chance Ive never heard of it.

(785 posts)She has tried very hard to use her massive influence to support Democratic candidates. She's also an incredible songwriter, who puts on a fantastic show. Taylor Swift is both culturally and politically significant, whether you listen to her music or not.

(12,929 posts)Kelce and Swift are very generous and left-leaning, despite their wealth. Swift especially has funded food banks and showered her employees with bonuses. She successfully sued a promoter for harrassment as well bought her catalog from her former producers. She is a shining star. He plays football, well.

"He's not the man I married!"
(Which is also the title of a bit on Monty Python's Matching Tie and Handkerchief album, but I digress.)

The OP link has an interactive list, below is a partial screenshot:

According to Forbes Magazine, Taylor Swift is the #21 wealthiest self-made woman in America. AND she's the highest ranking musical performer to make this list. Among the female performing artists, Taylor Swift is only outranked by one other woman - namely Oprah Winfrey.
I'd say yes this is important news and it belongs on the LBN, at least on a "slow news day" like today.

(17,760 posts)Yes, old fart here. Her music just isn't my thing. And I'm not a football fan.
That said, I am happy for them both. She has been the brunt of Trump's stupidity, and she has done a lot to get young people engaged in voting.
I wish them both all the happiness they can find!
