... Clinton was president, some asshole senator from Texas, whose name is not worth remembering, proclaimed that, "Bill Clinton never met an education bill he didn't like!" He intended it as a pejorative, but it just served to exposed the Senator as the idiot he truly was.
Republicans hate and fear an educated electorate, because they are far less likely to buy into the simple-minded conservative bullshit malevolently intended to deprive them of the critical thinking skills one needs to survive in a society so grotesquely corrupted by the corporate hive-mind devoted to keeping them stupid gullible, and easy to manipulate.
As Voltaire so sagely noted, "Anyone capable of making you believe absurdities is capable of making you commit atrocities."
The irrefutable proof of that statement now surrounds us.
