Gérard Depardieu to face trial over rape and sexual assault allegations

Source: BBC

French actor Gérard Depardieu has been ordered to stand trial over allegations of rape and sexual assault in 2018.

His accuser, actor Charlotte Arnould, said she was relieved the case was going to court, seven years after she filed a complaint.

Depardieu, 76, has denied the charges, insisting his relationship with Arnould was consensual.

He was convicted in May of sexually assaulting two members of a film production crew four years ago - and placed on a list of sex offenders, but not jailed. He had denied their allegations.

From accusations of assault and rape by digital penetration (ie what Trump did - that's why he's a rapist) in 2018.

Depardieu starred in a movie called "Welcome to New York" in 2014, where he plays a French diplomat (or something like that) who is accused of raping a maid at his hotel and is arrested. The rape scene is quite direct. The movie was based on a true story of a French government official, last name Strauss-Kahn, who was alleged to have done the same thing a few years prior.

I remember the news story, because I think Strauss-Kahn returned to France while the investigation was playing out as the situation became complex due to France's extradition laws, diplomatic immunity, etc.

so I suspect he doesn't live there now:

The Kremlin has hit back after French actor Gerard Depardieu accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of "crazy, unacceptable excesses" in Ukraine.

Depardieu said the Russian people were not responsible for their president's behaviour.
...
In 2015, Ukraine banned him from entering the country for five years after he supported Russia's annexation of Crimea.

Despite this, the actor denounced the war in Ukraine shortly after it began in February and called for negotiations.
