Powerball jackpot jumps to $1.7 billion after another night without a big winner

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Powerball jackpot has jumped to an eye-popping $1.7 billion, after yet another drawing passed without a big winner Wednesday.

The numbers selected were: 3, 16, 29, 61 and 69, with the Powerball number being 22.

Since May 31, there have been 41 straight drawings without a big winner.

The next drawing will be Saturday night, with the prize expected to be the third-largest in U.S. lottery history.

10. I bought a $10 Powerball ticket Monday

For the very first time in my life I won something. I had never won anything in all the club raffles, drawings etc. Not even a "participation award" growing up..

I got a Powerball number correct and won $4.. I went out to today and bought a duplicate ticket... I have never played a lotto before so it is a new experience for me..

Is if you take the prize in 30 payments. Your first payment would be near 26 million before taxes.
If you don't handle money well it could be a good option and any residual after your debt is paid to your estate.

The payout as a lump sum is close to 800 million pretax. About 500 million after tax. A 4% return would give you pretax 20 million without touching principal.

I might be able to survive on that.

15. Since I'm 68, I would set up a trust

Frankly, I don't trust the government to make all 30 payments, and I won't be alive that long.

I would set up a charitable trust that would pay me a handsome management fee annually (which I would pay taxes on). My needs are fairly small. I could live like a queen on $200 K. I would employ my 32 year old niece and 62 year old brother as consultants.

I would set up my cousin's son, who has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair, in a the nicest assisted living place I could find. My cousin and her husband, now 70, have rarely even taken a vacation by themselves in almost 50 years of marriage. I would set them up in an an apartment in a senior living facility nearby. I would pay off their daughter's house and set up educational trusts for her kids.

I'd set up a senior community as a non-profit. Units would be "right sized" for privacy, without so much space that they would be costly to furnish or allow a big accumulation of "stuff". Craft rooms, a dining hall, a garden, a would all be shared spaces to encourage socializing. I would love there myself!

I would do everything possible to maximize tax free giving. I'm fine with paying taxes, just not more than absolutely necessary.
