ST. LOUIS — Boeing on Thursday announced plans to hire "permanent replacement workers" for manufacturing roles as a strike by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers reaches the one-month mark.

In a message sent to St. Louis area Boeing employees and shared with news media, Boeing Air Dominance Vice President Dan Gillian said the company has started the hiring process and will hold a job fair later this month.

St. Louis Boeing members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 837 went on strike on Aug. 4. They've since rejected two contract offers. There are about 3,200 workers on strike.

In the message, Gillian said the company’s most recent contract is the best they have ever offered to IAM 837.
