Loud Boos at Trump Hit Airwaves Despite U.S. Open's Request

The U.S. Open lost its bid to spare viewers at home from the crowds icy reception to President Donald Trump on Sunday. Loud boos directed at Trump were still heard in Disney-owned ESPN and ABCs coverage of the mens singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, despite an earlier request from the United States Tennis Association not to air any negative reactions to the presidents attendance.
An email sent by the organizations leadership, first obtained by journalist Ben Rothenberg, had asked broadcasters to refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the Presidents attendance in any capacity.
Trump attended the highly anticipated match as a guest of Swiss watchmaker Rolex. When he stepped out of the swanky suite, he was greeted by a mix of cheers and jeers in the stadium. In a clip of the ESPN/ABC coverage, the same rowdy uproar could be heard as cameras panned to Trump saluting the national anthem. He broke out in a smile shortly before the broadcast turned elsewhere.
The jeers and catcalls, resounding in Arthur Ashe Stadium, were clearly audible, columnist Nancy Armour wrote in USA Today of ABC and ESPNs coverage, adding, ABC and ESPN refused to kowtow. While ESPN livestreamed the mens final, it was broadcast on ABC.

ESPN/ABC show President Donald Trump during the national anthem at the US Open. The crowd can be heard booing, and the President reacted with a sly grin.

(22,883 posts)It's like when he hugs flags - he thinks it makes him look extra super patriotic (when in reality it makes him look extra super idiotic) for what he sees as a photo op.
Watching his face, you can see he's carefully trying to keep his features in just the right configuration. He does the same thing in photos where he's trying to look genial (usually accompanied by an upraised thumb), tough and scary (i.e., the mug shot), etc. He probably practices all his different expressions and poses in the mirror so he can trot out the right one for every occasion.

so ostensibly the crowd should be "Trump's people",...and yet, despite Trump's attempt to censor the audio feed the boos were deafening...and the boos will continue to follow him because every event he attends turns into a shit show/Trump taking center stage/Trump stealing the spotlight..but what's become obvious to me is Trump's advance team is no longer able to censor spectator vitriol regardless of Trump's revenge-fueled threats of targeted retribution...

(10,433 posts)(And these were not newbie trolls). I still don't understand how anyone can hear those clips and think it's anything other than an overwhelming negative reaction to Trump. I'm sure there were legitimately some people cheering, but I'd say it was at best 10% cheers to 90% jeers.

Trump Is Repeatedly Booed At The U.S. Open
Multiple broadcasters captured the jeers despite the USTA's reported efforts to silence them.

Trump attended the match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday afternoon as a guest of the luxury watch brand Rolex, causing significant delays for fans as stricter security measures were put in place for his appearance.
While the match was initially scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., it was pushed nearly an hour as hundreds of people remained stuck in security going into the stadium.
During the national anthem, Trump was met with boos, and when he was shown on the jumbotron saluting from a suite at Arthur Ashe Stadium, he was met with a smattering of cheers. Later in the match, he was booed again for an extended period after the camera panned to him during a set break.....
ABC and ESPN, however, were among those that continued to air the jeers and heckling that occurred, refusing to bow to requests to filter dissent.

His policies are gonna bankrupt and worse maybe kill us? Is 3 or 4% more taxation really mean that much to their rich asses? Someone, anyone, make it make sense.
