There have actually been 5 people depicted on US coins while they were still alive

Governor Thomas Kilby was depicted on the 1921 Alabama centennial half dollar;

President Calvin Coolidge was depicted on the 1926 US sesquicentennial half dollar;

Senator Joseph T. Robinson was depicted on one of the Arkansas centennial half dollars of the 1930s;

Senator Carter Glass was depicted on the 1936 Lynchburg, Virginia commemorative half dollar;

Eunice Kennedy Shriver was depicted on the 1995 Special Olympics commemorative dollar
