Chicago Mayor Creates 'ICE-Free Zones' to Block Raids by 'Rogue' Arrest Teams

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) signed an executive order Monday establishing ICE-free zones while slamming enforcement agents as a rogue and reckless group that were roaming throughout our city.
The order, effective immediately, forbids Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from using city-owned or controlled parking lots, vacant lots, and garages as staging areas, processing locations, or operations bases.
In a press conference, Johnson said the directive was needed after agents recently used multiple city sites to coordinate immigration raids. Such use of City property undermines community trust and runs counter to Chicagos Welcoming City Ordinance, Johnsons office said.
At a press conference, Johnson accused federal agents of acting without accountability. We have a rogue, reckless group of heavily armed, masked individuals roaming throughout our city that are not accountable to the people of Chicago, he said. If Congress wont check this administration, then Chicago will, Johnson added.

(3,087 posts)Under the Constitution any such arrest activity must be under a court-issued warrant.
And under Illinois law 720 ILCS 5/12-1, assault is defined as "when, without lawful authority, he or she knowingly engages in conduct which places another in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery" In other words, if dressed in a threatening way and acting in a threatening way as part of an organization that has a pattern of battery, each of these ICE officers can be guilty of assault just by their very presence.
The city or state police should follow them, detain them and make sure they have specific court-ordered warrants, and are proceeding DIRECTLY to enforce those exact warrants and nothing else. If they are not reasonably in the act of enforcing a specific warrant and are acting in any way menacing, then arrest their asses for assault.

What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.
It's heartening to see our elected officials fighting back and taking it too this illegitimate and illegal regime.

(28,763 posts)Even police can't arrest a federal agent (assuming they're on the job) for violating a city ordinance... let alone just a mayor's executive order. Private citizens certainly can't.
